Covers vs. Rarities
#31

I agree with skip...

why either/or? the songs that we see/hear 90% of the shows could be given a break and we could make room for both a cover and some rarities. (I'm sure I am in the tiny-ass minority of rather not having to hear NOIS, 100M and Blow almost every time. I'm aware that sentence might get me banned from this site!) Of course the increased play of rarities makes 'em less rare...

Side note: I think the critique of their homage to REM in "End of" is unfair. It was solid and fun.

"Suspicious Minds" was quite appropriate and kicked much ass!

I'm pretty sure EVERYONE here thinks that way. We just understand that it's probably not going to happen and deal with it.

I don't, but I've only been to one show. Tongue

The band's gotta do whatever it takes to keep it fun, so play whatever. Though I don't know if EVERYONE feels that way. Maybe my minority isn't as small as I thought, but I doubt EVERYONE feels that way. Either way, whatever...

And by "deal with it" you mean keep going to the shows (3 this tour with 3 more to come) and keep listening to the records (as many as my sad ratio allows me), then yup I too deal with it!

EVERYONE here, I mean - most of the regulars, anyway. There were whole threads of people bitching about the lack of variety in the setlist and "why don't they drop X song" during the Canadian tour. My personal stance is that I don't mind them playing a few hits, but I'd like them to mix them up a little more. I'm still more than satisfied every time I see them, though.

We all have different ways of coping. It seems that yours are pretty similar to mine, and likely those of many others.

Maybe the Hip heard our plea for both? COVERS AND RARITIES...ie last few shows (penquin, daddy, engaged)

I was just listening to an album, and I think I know what the coolest cover type=thing the hip could ever do for an encore:

The Hip walk out onto stage, and play Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band... play two hip songs... and then close the show with the Sgt. Pepper reprise.

Improbable... but WOW. That would kickass.

Well, we got a Beatles tune for the cover tonight...

It's Tax-time in the US, so I'm the Taxman...

Good fun... I liked it.

I am regretting right now not posting in response to opiated. I started typing how something a bit bluesy like Taxman would be cool.

Weird.

But I guess I have no proof of this, therefore you have no reason to believe me.
So I guess this post is meaningless.

....like so many others of mine :jump

I want to see them again playing all their hits, before i can see them busting out the rarities.

I have only seen them live once, and barely knew who they were at that point (it was at Accross the Causeway and i was most excited for Matt Good that day Sad)
