And I found myself singing the Hip at shoppers as I worked product.
Alot of them just walked away.

Sorry for pulling this thread back from the depths, but I couldn't think of a better way to let the long-timers know what happened and why I'm back (in case they cared of course, haha! :oops: ) So if you want to then read on, if you don't that's OK too, I won't be upset.
Quite a few things have changed with me since I last posted (more than a year ago I think? geez time flies by). To start the story, in October of 2005 I was blindsided by the company I used to work for in Toronto and was laid off due to overall company cutbacks... which I still don't think explained the whole story, but that's neither here nor there today. I tried finding work again for a little while but did not have any luck doing so, and after a few months, in March of 2006 I moved back to my parents' house in London to do some soul-searching and think about what I really wanted to do with my life. I decided that, since next to the Hip the other real passion in my life was sports, I would try to embark on a career change to find work in sports management. I found a school program at Algonquin College in Ottawa in sport business management that seemed to fit the bill... good courses plus field placements to get industry experience and stuff.
So that's where I am now, in Ottawa, in the last term of the 12 month program... then I'll have to find a real job again! But it will be in an area I love so it will be fun too. Along with classes my current field placement is with Team Ottawa Gatineau (at Ottawa city hall, really), I start Thursday helping them to develop event hosting (and funding) guidelines, improve their website and possibly help target future events for hosting in the Ottawa area. I also will soon be starting a project for the general manager of the group bringing the World Junior Hockey Championships to Ottawa in 2009. Very exciting!
Overall I'm happier and in a better place now. I'm even working on getting into better physical shape, and even though the last couple months I haven't been as diligent as I should be, since last year I have lost 65-70 pounds or so... I still have a ways to go but I feel good and proud of what I have accomplished. So if I can turn around my life anyone can, so take heart any of you who are down! :thumb:
I guess I needed this time away to get my head straight, but I missed posting on here. I still love the Hip, and was privileged to see them twice during my time away from this board... the second Fort York show in Toronto last year and the show at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa this past February... both AMAZING shows (38 Years Old and Fiddlers Green? WOW!!). Anyway I look forward to hearing from the veterans of the board again and from the new people who have joined since then.
