Looks like we don't have to wait long for more Gord

They won't gross the whole amount. Probably not even half. But it's still a substantial haul.

Of course they're going to strike while the iron is hot. Not only does Gord want to make his family is provided for, the rest of the band is also losing their main source of income. Yes, there are side projects but let's be teal, they'll never climb to the heights the Hip did.

Just hoping they saw a larger cut for platinum tickets, is how I justified the cost.

Also, I don't think anyone here is implying that the tour or anything was done as a money grab. The album was set to be released with a tour to follow, regardless of Gord's health. If I had to guess why Gord let out the news of his health I would say it was 2 things. #1, bring attention to a worthy cause and help raise money for Sunnybrook (he himself won't see a penny of that money), and #2 so that long time fans would know full well that it will likely be their last chance to see the band. Imagine if they hadn't mentioned Grd's health? Me and hundreds of others wouldn't have driven 900kms to see them. And I would feel utterly heart broken that I missed the tour. So yeah.... smart move of them to mention it, and if they make some extra money in the process, all the power too them. They seem far too humble though to explicitly set out to rip off the fans. In fact I'm surprised they haven't advertised Gord's fund at the shows. It's a missed opportunity if you ask me.

...and to explain ahead of time why the lead singer of the band is looking a little frail. Imagine the rumours and speculation had they not said what's happening.

I mean, just look at the speculation that was on HERE before it was announced. Lots of "Gord is getting divorced/the band is breaking up/etc" when he started missing appearances and stuff started getting shuffled around.
