Looks like we don't have to wait long for more Gord -

"Downie has what has been described to me as an amazing solo project ready for release in October. In addition to a CD that explores the challenging issues of Canada’s notorious residential schools for native Canadians, the disc will also spawn a graphic novel and an animated CBC special. I’ve heard he’ll tour it too."

Thanks for sharing this--it made my day. I've kinda crashed emotionally after the riot of the last week--that whole thing of looking forward to it but also not wanting it to be over...but now it's over.
I hope this rumour is true, not just because I'd love to see him again, but because his work will undoubtedly have a positive effect on where this country is at wrt the discussion of residential schools & the residential school legacy.
Gord is just the gift that keeps on giving.

So if this is being turned into a graphic novel and animated film, I wonder if this might be more of a spoken-word album? Whatever the case, I'm excited either way.

This is so awesome! It sounds true because it sounds like most of it has already been produced. I can't see him "touring it" (like as in going to various Chapters to sign copies? Maybe, if he is feeling well enough, but the lines to get into Chapters would be crazy, no?). If tour it as in sing songs at venues, well that would be a gift, a blessing, I would love that. I would not get my hopes up though. Also, this thread should be in the solo section*

I had just assumed he would be doing a cd that would also be the soundtrack to the film that tied into the graphic novel, but yeah, I guess the sky's the limit. Curioser & curioser...

My boss' dad is a notable session musician who said that he did a session with Bob Rock about 8 months ago recording tracks for Gord. He wasn't sure if it was going to be released, but this must be it.

That all sounds super awesome but it will feel a bit weird if the last things he does are not Tragically Hip things, ya know?

Presumably it's not a rumour. The Gord solo project has been mentioned by Bob McKenzie of TSN and Michael Hollett, a well-connected Toronto industry guy who wrote the article I posted. Both are friends of Gord and the band. Also, if the October release date is true, it means any creative work is already in the can and they're just doing final prep and figuring out marketing at this point.

I'm not seeing anything in that article about a Gord solo project. Am I blind? Has it been removed?

Looks like they edited that part out of the article.
