So does that mean moshing is acceptable, just because a few guys want to do it? Then why does Gord Downie lecture the crowd if it is getting violent? He must have a reason. Why did Dave Grohl say that fans should go to enjoy the show without doing physical harm to others.

BIGVDOGG, I'm not attacking you personally. I don't even know you. I'm attacking the idea that it's ok to go to a rock show and do physical harm to others.

Well what do you think will happen? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that somebody is going to get hurt if bodies are bumping into one another and elbows are swinging wildly. Hey, if people want to mosh in a designated area, that's fine. A fenced in square area could be set up for people who want to mosh and the rest of the crowd could be worry free about their glasses getting smashed or getting a broken nose. :thumb:

shit would never happen if people respected other people's space and not run around like chickens with their head cut off. At GA shows I realize that the crowd can be tighlty packed and bumping into someone migh occur but when you intentially bump into someone who is trying to peacefully enjoy a show you're taking away the right of that person to enjoy the show they paid to see. I understand your point that moshing is the right of the people who want to do that as a way of enjoying a show, but in doing so it takes away the rights of those around them who don't want to participate in that. It works both ways.

i've literally been in hundreds of moshpits...ranging from 10 people to thousands...and NEVER, NOT EVEN ONCE...have i gotten hurt, or has anybody in attendance gotten hurt...sure i've been kicked in the head, dropped on my head, albowed and punched in the eye, lots of crazy shit, but nothing that required medical attention...the only thing that even comes close, was a security guard getting punched out at Our Lady Peace at the Sudbury arena in 97...the band stopped playing to let a stretcher carry the guy away...and in the mean time, Raine told an excellent joke about a human cannon ball and his adulterous wife, and then they played an ultra rare song (Trapese) when the guy had been carried away...highlight of the show (along with their cover of Dear Prudence)...

there's unwritten rules of moshing...

-do your best to not drop crowd surfers...

-help people up when they get knocked down...

-try to watch your elbows, fists, ect..

-beware of your surroundings (girls, beer ect.)

just to name a few...it's common sense more than anything, people in mosh pits are just trying to have a good time, and they aren't idiots at all, they are usually very caring/nice people...just with a lot of pent up energy that they gotta let out...

isn't it better to mosh and get all that energy out of your system over, say...starting a bar-fight or something stupid like that?

Firstly, when I say physical harm, that doesn't neccessarily mean emergency room visit. You said you've never been hurt and then proceeded to talk about getting kicked in the head, dropped on your head, elbowed, and punched in the eye. Confusedhock: Well, where I'm from, that's enough to be considered PHYSICAL HARM. For the people who are moshing, they don't care because they expect to get a few bruises but what about the people who go to the show to watch the band in their own space in peace?

As far as the unwritten rules of moshing, the goons in Charlottetown-

-couldn't keep all crowd surfers afloat so to speak
-did NOTHING to help people who had fallen, NOTHING
-didn't care if they elbowed the back of people's heads
-couldn't care less about what or who was around them

See the funny part of it is that moshing generally DOES START BAR FIGHTS when I'm at the bar watching a show.

Hey, I expect the front rows of outdoor festival concerts or and AC/DC concert or something to be rough. I didn't expect a concert in Charlottetown to get as rowdy as it did. It's one thing to mosh with other MOSHERS, it's another to just go around and hip check random members of the crowd.

PEACE TO EVERYONE! :thumb: Big Grin

well, apparently the people in Charlottetown are idiots...did an actual fight break out? no it didn't...

in 2004, at the Sudbury Bluesfest, the only fight that broke out during the entire festival, was during Bobcaygeon...a song to which nobody was moshing or even really moving around all that much...and it had to do with somebody's girlfriend or somethign stupid like that...

the only time i've ever seen a "fight" break out due to a moshpit, was at a terribly shitty hardcore show in Sudbury, where a bunch of university/college douchebags had come to see the shitty band that was headlining...

during the only decent band's set, i and some of the usual suspects were trying to get a mosh on, and theses fucking people from out of town whom nobody had ever seen at a show (or seen since) were giving us dirty looks, pushing younger kids from behind violently (but not participating in the mosh pit themselves), and laughing about it and high-fiving each other...so...i took matters into my own hands, grabbed the biggest one by his shirt and brought him into the pit...oh was it wonderful to see the look of worry on his face as he got bounced about by kids half his size...embarassed and angry, the fucker tried to jersey me, so i headlocked him and brought him to the floor, and held him there until his buddies, and the locals broke it up...they spent the rest of the night at the back of the room where they belonged after that...but even then, that's not really a fight, just an altercation.
