A New Hip Club-looking to the future..
#61

Andre Cardinal Wrote:So, does anyone have the same problem with their HipClubCard as I do? It has been sitting in my wallet for some 3 or 4 years now, and is cracking in two. Kinda looks like my old health card, before they came out with the new picture ID version. What do I do if I lose this number? My whole identity will be gone! Well, not really, but I'll lose access to any further promotions the Hip may do using these old cards.

MAV, my two cents = NEW CARDS.

I've got a wacky, out-on-a-limb suggestion to combat the imminent obliteration of the number on yer card. It's so crazy it might work: write the number down on a piece of paper.

[be sure not to expose the paper to open flame, however]

Wouldn't issuing new Hip Club cards would be exactly like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic (as the old simile has it).

peace,

Chris...

You're saying I should carry around a piece of paper to present at the door when getting in to those "pre-tour-hipclub-members-only" shows? I don't know how everyone else feels, but I don't see my current HipClubCard as anything else but a number. The first Hip Club was not run properly. Hopefully that changes. And what about all the new Hip fans? Should the website or promotions be only available to fans that bought M@W?

Its actually In Violet Light that you get the Hip Club card from.

I thought that's what the secret handshake was for.

I'm too lazy to read through the whole thread, so hopefully this hasn't been covered already. One problem I see with a simple fee to join a club is that scalpers will gladly pay it to reap the benefits of presales. Some scalpers might go to the trouble buy a cd, but I think it reduces the chances. I know that personally when I've scored some good tickets its awesome, and the few times I missed out on presales I wasn't too disappointed. But if I paid to enjoy those presales and missed out because some scalper bought 100 memberships so he could sell tix for $500+ on ebay I would be pissed. I think something like this happened to U2 when they created their paid membership club.
I was in line for the surprise Massey Hall show just after M@W and the only guys in front of me were some homeless dudes obviously paid by scalpers. We waited all night and when they finally opened the box office the security guy asked hip trivia ?'s. Real easy, like "whats the name of their latest album?" None of these guys knew the answers so they got booted. Tongue

That happened at one of the venues we were at as well. I think it might have been that same tour actually at the kamloops ticketmaster branch. Can't say for sure since the days of camping out for tickets are all the same kinda hazy memory. :thumb:

The Hipclub pre-sales was(/is?) the only real benefit of the HIPCLUB and thanks to it I would never have been front row for a HIP concert, but I'd like to see it improve even more. I am a member of the Aerosmith fan club and their pre-sales are in packages with 4 different price categories ranging from just the tickets to a $500 package that gets you front row, backstage before and after show, autographed things, VIP parking and a gift bag etc.... I've seen the Hip close to 20 times now I've never come close to being back stage let alone meeting them, HIP fans like me would eat this up, my only point.

Hey MAv, just wanted to ask a question seeing how the album is about to be released. Im assuming a big tour or some kind of tour will follow at some point, and I just wanted to know when/if the "new" Hip Club will go into effect? Will we be able to get first crack at tickets if a full on tour happens?

Thanks MAv.

**And MAv if you're in a position where you can't answer right now, I understand, but thanks anways for looking.

I have always thought of everyone that runs Hipbase/Hipfans/Tracker etc. to be the ultimate in fandom. Above and beyond in trying to get the word of the Hip out to the world and out to the fans. In doing this some of these members have had contact witht the band and mngnt themselves. That in itself I think is a huge compliment to those that run fans sites, to have that contact or to be acknowledged by the bands. Are these people better than me because they do this. Or they met the band. No, they are lucky. But they are also appreciated by me. And would like to thank everyone that has put time into these ventures. I takes time and money. I get to enjoy and talk and share w/everyone from all over for free (aside hook-up fees etc).
I really don't think I would want to pay to be part of a fan club. But the Hip are different. If it was say no more than $20 a year, I think I would pay. But you know why I would pay. Becasue for the past however many years it's been, I have been able to recive a copy of a Hip show I never went to. Why? Because the band lets FANS tape the shows. And distribute them w/out hassle. Have I ever paid for one of these bootlegs? NO. And I won't. But because of the band and the fans that run these sites, I have been able to enjoy WAY more than that $20. If they decide to run a pay service, I feel I owe it to them to be involved. (my wife may think different... )
Thanks again to all involved. You know who you are.

Contrary to some of our other posts; I agree 100% with rocketsan22!

count me in!.. They gotta run a business just like every other band..

I'm still just a little pissed that we didn't get any leverage outta keeping our Hipclub membership cards in every new wallet we bought hoping for a "members only show" or "members only bootleg" someday...

Like others mentioned, Pearl Jam has perfected this with little or no hassle so let it be the dawn of a new era for Hip fans..

Being a Hipclub member got me (and probably others on this forum) in the Silver Jet video where I got to spend the whole day and night with other Hip fans and the guys themselves. They could have done just a regular casting call but they decided to open it up to their fans.
