Pearl Jam is coming to Canada
#16

Warrants mentioning: in the band's most recent newsletter, Jeff Ament said they were planning on visiting "some new spots in Canada". That, coupled with "O Canada" playing on the TenClub website, coupled with a message to have membership info updated and "what are you waiting for--eh?", and it seems very unlikely that this is a shot across the Bush Administration's bough. According to the message board over at The Sky I Scrape (this from a reputable source), the band is plotting a ten-date Canadian tour; "confirmed" cities include Van City, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. So take this for what it's worth...I mean, it's still very much a rumour, but the guy has been reliable before. Having said that, the various message boards also have "confirmed" info on shows in Saskatoon (three nights!), Kingston, Moncton, St. John's, Halifax and Victoria...so go figure.

What I do know is this: my membership is in good standing, I'm allocating funds as we speak and am envisioning a summer in which Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and possibly one or two other cities are prominently involved. And if that rumoured Thunder Bay show were ever to transpire...well, seeing Pearl Jam in the same building in which I learned how to skate would represent the culmination of my human experience. :jump

Pearl Jam at the Memorial Centre in Kingston would be the equivilant of hell freezing over. That said, I'll put on my parka if they do it.

Cheers

I don't know if I should join the club, I am having difficulty, and don't have the patience, but I haven't seen Pearl Jam since VS. came out.

Dude, DO IT. TenClub is the greatest invention since sliced bread. On the last tour (2003--not counting the VFC Tour) registered members were able to get a pair of tickets to as many shows as they wanted. I had awesome seats for Buffalo, State College, Toronto and Montreal and didn't so much as lift a finger--I simply sent in my money order and waited for the E-mail confirmation. And the seats are great: they start with row 1 and work their way backwards, so you're theoretically guaranteed better seats than anybody else. And seeing a show among fan club members is priceless...I mean, the average Pearl Jam fan is insane (myself included), and we're a lot of fun to be around when our disciples are up there on stage.

Sorta like Hip fans, I guess. :thumb:

Personally I don't know if I buy into some of these crazy rumours like Pearl Jam playing three nights in Sask...locals don't even want to spend three nights in a row there! Seriously though, I just don't see that particular rumour materializing. I do however think they will at least one or two east coast dates (east of Montreal).

MountainHip, apparently others were having problems registering as well but the problem has been fixed.

heh... I read your post over at one of the pearl jam forums as well, anyway, the rumor about the 3 dates in Sask. seems pretty strong, but it's not for them to play all 3 dates, it's that they've reserved 3 dates and that they'll pick one for the actual show.

I'm super stoked from this canada tour rumor. To see them again without having to drive over 10 hours would be awesome. Such a great live show. I just hope it doesn't happen when I have to go to a wedding or something.

Anyway... no point really getting too excited on any of this until the announcment on Tuesday.

I think it just said to make sure your membership was current as of Tuesday. My bet is there won't be an announcement until later in the week or even a few weeks down the road.

See, I've completely lost my mind over this whole "Pearl Jam in Canada" rumour. Like seriously, I've got a combined forty pages' worth of papers due Monday, yet every half hour I'm checking Synergy to see if an announcement has been made. I guess it's the notion of paying Canadian dollars to see Pearl Jam, instead of worrying about the conversion rate; last tour I hit three U.S. shows and it almost bankrupted me, so the thought of staying within Canada and seeing the same number of shows is intensely appealing (and getting my tax rebate ain't gonna hurt, neither). Still, like someone else said, I'll believe it when I see it--I have no doubt it's going to happen, but until something gets announced I've got to focus on not letting it drive me insane.

Because up until now, it certainly has! Big Grin

I keep checking the message boards too to see if there's any dates that get leaked out. The latest rumour is Sept/Oct for east coast dates, but I've also seen July (that's what my money is on).

I've got a friend who works at the MTS Center here in Winnipeg and I've got her doing some investigative work for me this weekend to try and find out if there are any dates being discussed. She actually told me shortly after Christmas that Pearl Jam was playing a Winnipeg date that was TBA but I didn't believe her...a few weeks later the newsletter came out with Jeff Ament's comment about playing some new Canadian dates, so I'm sure it will happen at some point this year.

I was going to skip the mini-tour...and then the Boston shows got announced, I scored awesome seats to night one, yadda yadda yadda, I ended up making the drive from Toronto to Boston for two of the more spectacular concerts I've ever attended. The "Alone" / "Present Tense" / "Corduroy" swing at the second show was unreal, and hearing "I've Got A Feeling"...well, let's just say it was a little bit dusty in the FleetCenter that night.

Won't get flamed from me, that's for sure--not with these rumours floating around. I posted a message on...uh, TSIS, I think, about Toledo and/or Grand Rapids tickets, then withdrew them when I got the Boston tickets. So you can imagine my chagrin when a friend of mine called me from Toledo screaming, "Why aren't you in Toledo, Ohio?" and proceeded to hold his cell phone up while Young Neil did a latter day NeilJam. Ah, well--it was nice of him to call, I guess. Tongue

Saw a message you posted over at Synergy, btw--I think you and I have been at, like, nine of the same PJ/Hip shows (mostly in Toronto, but I was also at that random Pearl Jam show in Hershey). Like I said--no flaming from this guy.

Pearl Jam are great. I can't see any reason for "flaming" of any kind when Pearl Jam is brought up in conversation. Neil Young is a fan and that alone is almost enough for me. lol.
