Looks like if you booked using Visa or Mastercard you are OK. Same if you used a travel agent in Ontario. As some have posted earlier, it seems insiders of the industry are not suprised by this.

The interesting thing is who is gonna jump in there and grab the 10% of JetsGo's market shares?
Air Canada has heavily committed to it's overseas routes, hoping to use it's status as the only Canadian overseas carrier to monopolize the international market. In this morning's Globe (before the story about JetsGo broke) Air Canada announced non-stop to Rome starting in April. Milton : "We're gonna stand back and watch West Jet and JetsGo duke it out." They are probably too financially committed to the overseas surface to make a grab at the JetsGo market share, despite the fact that it included most of the indelibly lucrative Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal. This leaves it wide open for West Jet to jump right in their. Not only do they have aircraft better suited for commuting, THEY ARE ON TIME. So with West Jet grabbing JetsGo's market share, they would be seriously coming up the rump of Air Canada. Many pundits think that JetsGo's capitulation will result in fare hikes trying to win back money spent trying to compete with "Loonie Sundays". But increased competition between West Jet and Air Canada can only mean one thing: plummeting fares on the long range routes. Finally, something in the Canadian aviation industry that is good for the man!

Jetsgo's 10% market share is a bit of an illusion.
I fly frequently, at least monthly. Flights are usually (except at peak travel time) about 60-70% full. Jetsgo's 10% market share will mostly disappear into existing flights.
So, fare hikes are more likely than a price war between WestJet and Air Canada.
