Lynette and I are going to Halifax next friday! We are out $800! We had to rebook with AirCanada, $400 more...

I hope we can get our money back from VISA.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before with Canada3000, Royal or any other Airline?
Thats really sh**ty about Jetsgo, but looking at the past financial history, it was quite apparent this would happen.

This would be a new precident for tool points, no?

Lance, the wife, kid and I were booked to visit family in three weeks. I'm on the phone with VISA now. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Jetsgo has handled this very well - pull the website, pull all signage, and don't make any staff available. Remember the name Michael Leblanc for future reference - owner and CEO. Smarmy bastard.

I didn't even hear about the grounding of the airline until I read your post just now...funny you should write this.

I dropped my boss off at the Ottawa airport last night for a 7:00 flight with Westjet back to Toronto...apparently there was a terrible storm in the Winnipeg area which prevented that connector from reaching Ottawa so he immediately rescheduled with the JetsGo flight which was scheduled to leave at 7:30. So he boarded the plane and then 20 minutes later they were ushered off the plane with the excuse of "mechanical problems" Unbeknownst to everyone it wan't mechanical problems at all but the demise of the airline. Needless to say he got out of town on an Air Canada flight at 12:30 in the morning.

Another story...my buddy was studying overseas in Wales and he got screwed out of $600 for his flight with Canada 3000 when they went tits up too...I've been lucky so far..fingers crossed.

the daughter of a coworker is stuck in toronto with a one-way ticket home. no airline is honoring jetsgo tickets. air canada is booked solid and if you can get a seat, you pay full fare.

westjet has a 4 day wait for a flight.

i want to know how it is legal for jetsgo to be booking ticekts up until yesterday and then all of a sudden pack up last night.

I can't believe that, they out right lied to the passengers!

We are rebooked for the 15th now at a extra $400, I hope we can get our money back. I guess Lynette was on the phone and said to call back the day of the flight we book. Jetsgo has to provide the service, it is a legal contract. If they do not we will get our money back from Visa and they will go after them. Thats what the CSR said, but you never know...
I heard this on the CBC this morning. Apparently in St John's there was only one JetsGo flight so other airlines looked after their passengers. Haifax also had only one flight scheduled and I don't know what happened here, but the news was remarking that things were going to get dicey in plaes like Toronto, with eighteen flights to worry about.

Bastards, all of them. There's a special, extra-toasty corner of Hell reserved for airline-related matters. All airlines everywhere.
A ticket may be a contract, but if the airline goes bankrupt, you become just another creditor in line. And unfortunately, you're not one of the priority creditors, so essentially your money is sucked away to pay their bankers.

This paints a bleak picture:

Really, there's no excuse for it. What was it, a surprise?
sounds like somebody at the Transportation Ministry was asleep at the switch..That's shocking, cause generally when American carriers go into bankruptcy they get emergency funding from the courts to keep their planes flying to honor the tickets they have already sold.
A woman was on the local radio this morning, not sure where she was from. She actually booked tickets last night at 10:30 with Jetsgo. they took her reservation and money. She wakes up this morning and heres the news.............

No federal refunds for Jetsgo passengers
Last Updated Fri, 11 Mar 2005 10:56:19 EST
CBC News

OTTAWA - The federal government can do little to help passengers holding worthless tickets for the discount airline Jetsgo, said Transport Minister Jean Lapierre on Friday.

Lapierre estimated as many as 17,000 passengers a day travel on the airline, which announced early Friday morning it was immediately suspending operations.

Federal transportation officials are talking with other airlines, including WestJet and Air Canada, which is consulting with its unions to add more flights.

While the transport minister said there would be no federal refunds, some passengers may get their money refunded if:

* They bought their ticket through a travel agency in Ontario and Quebec, which have compensation funds.
* They used a credit card that offers travel insurance.

People who bought tickets on the internet may be out of luck, he said.

Lapierre said the shutdown had nothing to do with a 30-day directive his department issued to the discount carrier on Thursday, warning it to fix a series of problems. The airline had been told it would lose its operating certificate unless it complied with the order.

Listen to this one!

Quote:Here I am, working shifts, woken up Friday morning by a distress call from my wife and son, stranded in Cuba due to the Jetsgo inevitable collapse. Is anyone offering help? To this point, not a soul. You're on your own!!

Just a few numbers to call like Air Canada, who will look for cheap fares for one way flights, no guarantees though, after all people, it's March break!!

Or call your Provincial Consumer Affairs Ministry, yeah right. Or perhaps the Canadian Transportation Agency, so you can become just another statistic? We'll see, I'm still surfing and calling around for help for this S.O.S.

That's too kind. Hell, he is a huge asshole. Pulling something as tiny as his heart through that giant orifice would be practically painless. It would be like an elephant shitting a pea.

I suggest instead pulling his greed through his sense of decency. Now that would hurt. Like a pea shitting an elephant.
