emperor penguin Wrote:Courage is on the list now, I'm suprised there's no Rush on the 80's list they were voted best band of the 80's in Canada. Tom Sawyer or the Spirit of Radio should definately be there.

Don't you mean "Diane Sawyer" ?

A modern-day warrior
Mean mean stride,
Today’s diane sawyer
Mean mean pride.

Though her mind is not for rent,
Don’t put her down as arrogant.
Her reserve, a quiet defense,
Riding out the day’s events.
The river

And what you say about her company
Is what you say about society.
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift.

The world is, the world is,
Love and life are deep,
Maybe as her eyes are wide.

Today’s diane sawyer,
She gets high on you,
And the space she invades
She gets by on you.

No, her mind is not for rent
To any God or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent,
She knows changes aren’t permanent,
But change is.

And what you say about her company
Is what you say about society.
Catch the witness, catch the wit,
Catch the spirit, catch the spit.

The world is, the world is,
Love and life are deep,
Maybe as her skies are wide.

Exit the warrior,
Today’s diane sawyer,
She gets high on you,
And the energy you trade,
She gets right on to the friction of the day.

It's actually from the Trailer Park Boys. The one where Ricky kidnaps Alex Lifeson. And he's like, "Your gonna play a concert in the trailer park, and you better sing that Diane Sawyer song!"

Some people responded to this by working on a "counter-canonical" list of their own:
http://pwi.blogspot.com/

But don't go looking for the Hip on there.

Why not? Well, they explain it at length. Basically what kwt said.
1. "the Hip are sooo Canadian, so if you like them, you must have provincial tastes."
2. "the Hip are popular in Canada, so Canadians who like them must not listen to much music."
3. the Hip's most popular songs mostly represent only one face of the band, so people write them off before digging into the catalogue.

Notably, the people vetoing a Hip appearance on this list couldn't remember the nominated song (Wheat Kings). It wasn't the song, but the idea of the Hip they hate.

See why most critics don't care to elaborate? Smile
