I think yer all cooked -- GD is way too cynical to leave anything as a love song.
I think Another Midnight is as close as they get. And even there "she makes love hard like an enemy".
oh, no wait, they did "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)", didn't they.

The Darkest One, hands down, it's simply (in a complex, transcendant kinda way hehe) magical and dreamy.

"Like everyone I knew a Dave/
drove a plymouth shallow grave/
he my girl don't just walk, she unfurls"
"If I'd never seen you, I could always dream that I'd be better off alone"
"Everyone's Got their breaking point, with me it's spiders, with you it's me"
"In the middle of that riot, couldn't get you off my mind"
"Courage, it couldn't come at a worse time"
"I need your confidence, need to know you're mine"
"Until we meet again, let's stay engaged"

also, i have to put in an honourable mention for The Completists, Oh Honey, and 700 ft. Ceiling (what could be more beautiful or touching than the love between a Canadian man and the good ole hockey game ?)

How 'bout "highway girl: doulbe suicide?"
Definitely Sherpa, BOBC, A Beautiful Thing, Heart of the Melt,... You're Everywhere is also a great one lyrically.

A couple more that haven't been mentioned: Scared is a beautiful song that my wife and I always sing.....Long Time Running is a great love/hate song in the true vein of relationships.....and despite what it's about, you can't forget Wheat Kings...If I had a dollar for every time I slow danced to that one, drunk off my ass at some pub, I could probably afford a round of drinks for the whole hipbase!!!

Yes, I gotta say 'Long Time Running.' Does it portray an unambiguous 'moon beams and puppy dogs' romance? Not at all. But it's a wonderful evocation of a young man's determination not to be tied down, laced with a deeper sense of what love is worth...'it's well worth the wait.'
I love the way the song doesn't resolve itself. You never know if the couple works out; it could break either way. But the narrative voice is fully realized. And the simple guitar is the perfect complement. :thumb:

Love songs can totally be "Love-Gone-Wrong Songs" so I'd say Waltz for Juliette
Also, everytime I here ABAC I think of a love that never was.

1. the completest (in a seductive way...mexican pot, bad intentions, talk...etc)
2. A beautiful thing (something about the 3 o'clock in the morning line gets me...assuming its a girl on the other end of the phone)
3. Long time running (not for the love of someone else but for the love of your home country (im not even canadian) and a band that lays it all out there) :thumb:
