Canada in American Media

No doubt about it. This isn't as it seems; it's just a device for TV - they want a reaction, because reaction = ratings. It's capitalist America, people! You need to remember that when you get 'irritated' about this crap....

skippy the wonder dog Wrote:What Tucker Carlson was really doing was trying to goad Carolyn Parrish into saying something like, "that's so typically American." I don't believe for a second that he really thinks there's a lot of dogsledding up here.

I'm glad someone sees it all for what it truly is and can keep it in perspective. Makes me wonder about those of you whose feathers get ruffled over this stuff.....

C'mon, your "feathers" wouldn't get "ruffled" if somebody on the CBC was interviewing Joe Biden and mentioned "inner-city-abondonning, fear mongering, third-world stiffeling, racist, ignorant, arogant Americans?" They may be stereotypes, but they can still plain ol' piss ya off.

The susbstance is always worth attacking no matter who says it. Nobody was losing their cool here, but it's only human nature to want to respond to such untruths... even if they come from clowns

Dame, I think you are seriously underestimating how many times I have to listen to people stereotype, criticize, denigrate, and scoff at America, its citizens, its cultural landscape, and its moral character. I am not complaining, and I'm not saying that a percentage of it isn't justified. But as if that weren’t enough, I get ten times more of the same as a Republican, listening to my own left-leaning countrymen berate anything and everything conservative. It all used to irk get to me until I realized that most of it is intended to do just what skippy said it was in an earlier post - elicit a reaction.

Yes, I suggest that anyone listening to or watching any private media outlet whose bills are paid with advertising dollars to grow a thick skin. Speaking of which, isn’t CBC government-funded? If so, it’d be an altogether different story if Biden was quoted saying those things on a media outlet that is even partially funded by the Canadian government, because then it becomes less of a ratings-driven commercial ploy, and more of a state-sponsored political agenda.

I agree that American journalism is extremely uneducated and ignorant when it comes to Canada. However, what really makes me sick is this moral superiority complex we Canadians seem to suffer from. The CBC is just as biased as Fox News, just in the other direction. We get outraged at media bias when it conflicts with our personal beliefs, but not when it coincides with it. How hypocritical is that?
