That is definitely what I love about the Hip, people can take such different things away from the same show.

Here is why I thought the Saddledome show sucked...

Yeah they played Locked and Long Time Running, but they left out so many great IBE songs like Copenhagen and Josephine. Also, I thought it was a pretty pedestrian show in that I didn't see anything on stage that I hadn't see 5 times before. No real surprises...I really feel like when they play a big venue they get even more pedestrian than they usually are. Its always Courage, Music, NOIS, Blow, Little Bones...small venues just bring out more of the easy going side of the band.

Just my two cents, but I thought the Whiskey show was so much more raw and free.

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed it though...what did you think of Joel Plaskett?

Definitely not Calgary! I was there and was not impressed...thank goodness I got to see them at the whisky...I am pretty pissed that they pulled Josephine, Everywhere and Heaven from a lot of the shows...if you are going to tour an album play the songs.

I'm afraid we have differing opinions of the Saddledome show. In my mind, we were given a treat with Locked, Scared, Something On, Long Time(sure they're playing somewhat now, but such was not always the case), Are We Family, plus the added bonus of Pink Moon at the end of ABAC, and then all the regular goodies.

I was at the Whiskey show, and besides being in such an intimate setting, it didn't stand out at all to me. The Saddledome show sure did.

I wasn't able to make it to the 'Dome show, but I've had countless people (including those here on the forums) tell me how fantastic it was. Locked, Scared, Something, Long Time, Copenhagen, Are We Family. All I can say is WOW! Wish I could've been there.

Oh and for the record, You're Everywhere and Heaven were both played in Calgary.

looking back I have to say Calgary got an amazing set, Id love to hear it, Im dying to hear Copenhagen live but nothing seems to have surfaced yet, anyone tape Calgary and can seed it on the HipTracker, that would be great! Also the Sydney NS show looked amazing to me, Id love to get either of those, I hope they come up on the tracker sometime. :thumb:

I never saw any of Joel Plasket. The group I was with had no interest and since I wasn't driving...you know the rest.

The only IBE song that you mentioned that they didn't play was Josephine, and yeah that would have been a great addition for sure.

The only albums I haven't seen toured are Day For Night and Up To Here, so I have seen the big shows and some small intimate ones, and I still say the last Dome show was very, very special. After having it sink in for quite some time now, I'm gonna rank it as my favorite Hip show to date...that's out of 18 shows over an almost 15 year stretch. The only other Hip shows that I can put in the same context as that are the Henhouse show in Saskatoon, and the PP show at Aspen...each special for their own reasons. As I've stated a few times there was just something completely on at the last show here, and they didn't even play Grace...something that I consider to be a must for any complete Hip show.

London for sure locked, lake fever, twist my arm, daredevil, 700 ft., and scared amazing i was there and i was almost in disbelief when they played some of those songs

I was at the Saddledome show and I loved it. My only setlist "complaint" would have been the lack of Grace, Too which is still my favourite live song by the band. But I'm not going to whine over that.

While I loved the Saddledome setlist, I think the Canada Day show at the Amphitheatre in Toronto was my favourite of the three I saw this year. I just find the outdoor concert experience 100 times better than the indoor concert experience. Of course, if the Hip were going to play the inside of an elephant's ass like they claim they would, I'd be there and be happy, Grace, Too or no Grace, Too. :thumb: Not sure how the elephant would feel though..... hock:

Yeah, Calgary was obviously different for both of us, but I have also seen 15 shows over 10 years and that would have been around #8 - 11 for me. Nothing really stood out. I feel I was pretty spoiled at the Whiskey show seeing the IBE material from the front row and We'll Go Too in there.

I was there for shows from the Evening with tour and 5 shows from the IVL tour and shows from those tours along with the roadsides I have been too meant a lot more to me. I am just wondering what it was that stood out at the Saddledome and made that show any different from any other show you have seen.

For me Winnipeg with 80,000 people for Warchild had an obvious different feel, Evening with was the band at their most committed to the fans, IVL I got to see shows in venues that made the music and the experience mean so much more (not to mention meeting the band, and getting Johnny's sticks) and with the Whiskey it was material I hadn't even heard yet and in a venue so small you felt like you were sitting on their laps.

The saddledome had nothing special like that, plus I think the acoustics in the dome are TERRIBLE. I was at REM two days before and even though it was my first REM show and they put on a great one, the dome is just a terrible place to see a show.

Again just my opinion and I am sparking interest in arguing with me...which if you knew me outside of this site you know I love. Let's keep the ball rolling.

Oh yeah and about the You're Everywhere and Heaven....yeah they played those in Calgary but Everywhere disappeared from setlists as the tour continued, and Josephine only made that one appearance. IT is too great a song to not play and I am convinced they have it out for me because the one song I wanted to see on the IVL tour was LEave and we all know how that went!

Well i only got to see 2 CAN. shows (Tor & Lon.)! And reading the setlist on here! It's hard to choose other shows, cause i wasn't there! And i think you need that extra bit, to pick! Since live, you get to see the screw up, the rants, the feel of the band, the feel of the crowd.....


Well after all this said and done, i gotta choose the London show! Cause that was the first time i have heard hiccups/daredevil
(all though dissapointed by the crowd, when they played hiccups, most people around me, were like huhhh......) i swear i was the only person bobbing my head! LOL

I completely agree with you! I was at the Winnipeg show as well and it totally blew me away. Out of all the times I have seen them live, that concert was #1 in my books. The set list was a perfect mix of new and old songs....and it was pretty apparent that the rest of the crowd was impressed too. It is nice to see that there are tons of other crazy fans out there such as myself

I would also have to agree with the London show being second....that was an icredible set list as well. Can't wait to download it!!

I wonder how long it actually takes the guys to figure out what they are going to play from venue to venue. With all the songs they have under their belt, it can't be an easy process. If I had to choose a set list somehow, I would have those guys on that stage for hours and hours. :lol:

I think Calgary and London are on top so far. I'm hoping for a special set for NYE... c'mon "Times Are Passing Us By" or "Another Midnight" as the clock strikes 12!

It is hard for me to put my finger on exactly what it was that night, and believe me I have been thinking hard about it. I am simply going more on a gut feeling I have after the show rather than anything else. Poor answer, I know, but that's the truth.

It may have been the people I was with, being 3rd row floor, the crowd around us, my mood that whole day, the lighting, the videos, 3 encores, the band being so "into" the show, the setlist...like I say, I can't pinpoint it, I just know how I feel.

Personally I would have to say London. However I was at the Winnipeg show and that was a strong setlist.

Hard for me to argue against Toronto, since I was there, the boys looked so on, and it was a show for the ages in my opinion.

But that London show sure looked sweet. I wish I could have made it to that one too. Oh well, I'll just have to wait (patiently? impatiently?) for livedownloads to make it available.

I was at the London show as well and it was terrific!! 700 ft, daredevil, family, locked, scared........disappointing not seeing Grace Too played, but it's good to have a change once in a while.
