The Phoenix is a terrible venue ... you should spare yourself the grief and give me your tickets.

I saw the Rolling Stones there.. with the Trews opening. Sound was awesome! :thumb:
That parking lot across the street is quite small, but it's pretty cheap to park there (at least it was last I was there). Get there early if you can, to snag a spot.

I've been there once a month for the last 3 1/2 years to see the Classic Albums Live. I rarely miss. The sound is acoustically VERY good not just due to the venue but I believe they have their equipment/stuff together there........one of the lead sound/tech/staging guys there who looks after the place has been in the business for probably 25+ years. I met him at Markham Fairgrounds for the 1st Roadside Attraction when I roadied and I've since him on numerous other huge concerts over the years.
Best show outside the Classic Album Series I saw there was..
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

I saw Sam Roberts there in April, it's definatley tied as my favourite concert experience with The Hip in Guelph. The atmosphere there is great, the sound is excellent and it definately helps being dead centre and front row lol. I showed up really early for Sam Roberts and was lucky enough to be right infront for the show. If I can score that for the Hip, I might faint!

Here's what I've seen at the Phoenix,
White Ribbon Festival 99-2003
CMW indie awards 03 (arcade fire, salads, doa, & more but I forget)
Fantomas 2005
Les Claypool 2006
Usually I found the sound to not be very good there, too much bass but the Les Claypool show sounded absolutly incredible, and I expected the worst with his bass heavy music but my opinion of the sound there was forever changed after that concert.

i think the place is good, but wouldn't say great. too narrow or something...when the place is sold out it's pretty tough navigating.
thinking who i've seen there:
badly drawn boy
clinic
meat puppets
mogwai (couple times)
foo fighters

What time do you think people will start lining up in front of the club? Is it worth it to start making plans to line up at, say, 2 in the afternoon to ensure a good view? Or just show up around doors open time and let the chips fall where they may?
Even if you wait in line for hours to ensure a front row "seat", you can't move until the boys come on; which is no fun.

I saw Bob Dylan there in 2004 from one of the tables at the front of the balcony and it was one of the single best concert experiences of my life. Saw BRMC there from the floor last year and it was still pretty good.

the thing about the phoenix is the doors they use to let you into the place are like right beside the stage. so you go through a hallway and then when you finally enter the place the stage is to your right.
so not sure going at 2 p.m. will have as big a benefit as it might at some other places. i just mean you could get up front relatively easily without having to go that early.
that said, as said above, the place kinda freaks me out when it's sold out. it's long and narrow and easy to get that claustro feeling...nevermind trying to get out from up front to get a beer or go to the washroom. i'll probably hang back, at the bar -- the view is still good from there.
at least it's not summer. i saw mogwai there this summer, it was sold out, and it was about four billion degrees in there.

If you're interested in getting a DVD of the show, please show some love to those of us with cameras. We're quiet and don't need a lot of space - just a good view of the stage through the lens.
