Has anyone here ever been to a show at the Pheonix before? I've been there, but not for concerts. Do they usually leave the couches that are at the front of the balcony? Or do they move them? What is the sound like?

Also, I wonder if there will be enough parking at the lot across the street. I don't recall how larget it is. And that area, isn't exactly the nicest for walking too far (especially after the concert, but I guess there will be lots of people around).

Yes, they leave a few couches in the back for loungers. There is usually parking available if you show up relatively early, but I'm not too sure if it reaches capacity close to show time.

The sound is awesome, IMO.

I've seen quite a few shows there, including the Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, etc, and still ranks as one of my favourite venues, especially when you can go up to the balcony and get a bird's eye view.

The staff seem to be experienced at "high profile" gigs there, and are usually friendly.

I suggest bringing an extra sweater if it's cold -- you may be in the lineup to get in for a while....

Says it has 112 spaces... so I think you'd have to show up early to get in there. Wonder what the next closest lot is...

That balcony sounds pretty good... does it usually fill up fast? Or I guess most people go to the stage? Guess that balcony will make a pretty good spot to film from?

Yes, the balcony fills up very quickly -- the usual, you have to get there early to get a spot. Sometimes I've been close to the front and when I got in, there were already people up there -- probably label peeps, and various band friends and family members.

I've been to just one concert at the Phoenix and it was really good. I remember being able to see the stage from the floor very easily. I'm too embarrassed to admit what concert it was that I saw there. :oops:

There's parking off of Church right across from MLG. That's usually our plan B whenever the one across from the Phoenix is full. There's plenty really in the area to choose from, or just take transit. It's a short walk from either Sherbourne Station on the Bloor line or even quicker if you're coming off the Carlton Street Car.

As for concert experiences, while I'm not a huge fan of the Phoenix, I've certainly seen some good shows there. Luckilly, because it's 19+, they won't have to section off half the floor like they have in the past. It sounds best just underneath the balcony I find, right by the board. That's where we were for Sam Roberts in April, and it was a great sound. I was upstairs watching a Habs/Lightning playoff game during Guster a few back and it sounded alright up there too to be honest.

Some of the photos have been changed, removed, etc... so it's not a good as it once was.

we should be able to pull some nice tapes there too. taped a few shows there over the summer and they turned out pretty good.

That's too bad -- hopefully they've taken them down to get better frames -- the ones they had them in were awful...

Saw Sleater-Kinney there on The Woods tour--unbelieeeeevable concert, and the first of seven SK gigs I saw in 2005. (That's all I've got...I just wanted to gush about SK 'cause I'm in, like, post-breakup withdrawal or something.) But it's a great venue--that gig is gonna be ROCKIN' for the week the Hip take up residence.
