...They will be touring the states again in February
#46

ITA with posts that say the touring schedule is nothing out of the ordinary.

Quote:I'm hoping, not that I wish poor sales on them, but maybe they are touring so much because the album isn't selling as well as they'd hope?

I don't think there is a corelation Wendy. The Hip are a touring band. I believe sales have been declining with every album in both Canada and the US. Sure they tour to promote the albums but they also tour because thats what they live and love. I don't think the Hip doing a US club tour is necessarily going to get more people to buy the album. Let's see. I'm in the US living in a non-border town. This band I've never heard on the radio or seen on MTV or see in the record stores is playing a local bar. Good candidate to buy a ticket and a CD? I'm not saying it doesn't happen but....I consider myself to be a big music fan and have been to literally over a thousand of shows. But there are concerts in Toronto every night of the week by known established bands that I never even hear about. Part of it is where I am in life now. But imagine how much harder it is for the Hip in the states.

I believe that they still have two more records on the current contract with Universal.

I bought the Sam Roberts CD and never had even heard of the band before they opened for the hip.

The Hip have said many times that while most bands tour to support records, they make records so they'll have new music to play on tour. They are truly a unique band.

After the final encore of New Year's Day 2000 show at the ACC, before leaving the stage Gord said:
"Thank you...we are never going away! Thank you... It's really you, it's you...it's true...it's you."

It gave me chills that night and it still gives me chills. Anything's possible, but as long as they have an audience, I believe they'll always tour.
