McCarver is awful. Over the last few seasons, I’ve made it a point ask as many baseball fans as possible whether or not they like McCarver, and I swear, not one single person said he / she does. I cannot believe he is still on Fox’s ‘A’ crew.

What a shame, especially since Joe Buck is currently the best in the business, IMO (as far as national TV baseball broadcasters go). And furthermore, I think Al Leiter (the third guy with Buck & McCarver) does perhaps the best job any MLB color commentator ever has. When Leiter retires from the Mets, Fox should dump McCarver and give the gig to Leiter.

As I've said before, I love the guy. He's got an unpretenious genuine appeal to him, and he knows his stuff. He's got an amazing historical reference range: one of those guys who can tell you who was on deck when Mazeroski hit it out.

I find Leiter to be forced, repetitive and confrontational.

It's television, it's entertainment, and if I can get a little history or a funny anecdote out of it, then all the better.

There's a reason McCarver had his job for so long and with so many networks.

Plus, the history he has with Joe's dad and their real on-air chemistry are part of what makes them a great package.

What's the deal with a fan "ghost" the announcers were talking about? When that fan nearly caught the homer that was debated, they said "Forget the Ghost of the Bambino, is this the Yankees' Ghost of _________?"

I honestly cannot say who I think will win tonight. The Yankees have been really unimpressive for the past few days, but they are the biggest group of professionals in the game, steely veterans, and despite their arrogance and bluster costing them three games ina row, I can picture them readying themselves for the task ahead. They're in a do or die situation now too, and I think they might handle it better than the Sox who have so much emotion on their side. I would say the Yankees might stand a better chance of winning, even though I don't want them to and that's a 50.000001% to 49.999999% pick over the Sox. It's so hard to call!

I agree with you 1000% on all accounts. He's clearly gone insane. He now makes up words and says remarkably stupid things like "a walk is as bad as a homerun". I have to admit that last night I found him more neutral than usual, but that doesn't make up for years and years of his homerism.

I'd love to hear Leiter fulltime. He's done a great job and brought great insight. And he's 1,000 times better than Bret Boone. Remember him last year? I think he'd say a total of three things per game.

But I personally feel the game at hand is fifty times more important than anecdotal references. And I must say to the contrary that I feel that he doesn't know his stuff - every single game he works, I can count numerous statements that are false, erroneous, or absurd. Sometimes, when a replay clearly shows that something happened one way, he'll stubbornly argue that it happened another.
