Most embarassing concert you'd admit to attending...

April Wino, I'm with you. I haven't heard much of April Wine but from what I know of them they seem like they are/were a pretty good band. They had some international success and played some good rock. Unfortunately, they played on PEI a few weeks ago and I missed the concert. It's funny, they were playing with Hootie and the Blowfish. I could have seen two candidates for this topic in one show!

Me too, plus I went with my mother and bought the live recording afterwards. I win.

Sam Roberts. Not the show, but the circumstance. He came to Vancouver and played two shows, one on a thursday at the Vogue (all ages) and one on friday at the Commodore (no minors). I, like an idiot (i had plans on the friday), opted for the thursday show. Oh goodness, the humility. Not a soul over the age of 16, I kid you not. Wait, thats a lie...all the 16 and under's parents were there! It was just ridiculous, teeny boppers bouncing off the walls this way and that. A bunch of them started yelling "can we mosh!?!"....*shudder*. It was really too bad, because they put on a good show, but you could tell they couldnt get into it, what with the incessant screaming and pre-teen angst.

Just out of curiosity - are there usually a bunch of teens that show up at Hip concerts? Smile

Yep. Age demo seems to be getting younger... which is great for the longevity of the band. But it could also be that it appears that way just because I'm getting older... All age groups are represented though, it's hard to say if one dominates. It's a good mix.

At Wasaga I had a 25 year old new mother on my right, a 40 something woman and her husband behind me, a couple of young (I'm talkin maybe 16) girls to my left, and a few other 20 something's in front of me. I'd say that's about average.

A buddy of mine put it best at the Amphitheatre show - he said that going to a Hip concert now is like going to a Rolling Stones concert. When we started going to Hip shows in our late teens/early 20s seemingly everyone there was the same age as us. But now you've got folks who are in their teens, their 20s, their 30s, and even their 40s at shows. I'd say that these days the demographic skews more towards those of us in our late 20s/early 30s. Oh sure, there are younger people there but they certainly don't make up the majority like they used to.

Funny, but I was thinking about this while reading the review of last night's Alice Cooper show at the Amphitheatre in the paper this morning; they described a similar mix of older and younger fans, and Alice has 10 years on the boys!

I think any band that survives as long as the Hip have will start to see this cross-over in fan demographics as it becomes something that's passed from generation to generation...and it shows no signs of slowing down...

My two boys (age 6 & 4) are totally hooked on the Hip and they've got another decade before they even hit the lowest end of the scale above...:thumb:

I have this vision of me taking both my son and grandson to a Hip show someday...(a la Homer and Bart taking in the Itchy & Scratchy movie 20 years later)...now THAT'S a scary thought!

Oh, and as for the topic of this thread...I was dragged to a Debby Boone concert by my mom when I was 9...not good. :x

OUCH. Anybody who can put "concert," "with mom," and "Debbie Boone" in the same sentence gets my vote.
