heatley faces indictment
#16

The fact of the matter is, Heatley was driving recklessly when the accident occurred. I cannot remember what the exact speed was but it was well over the limit. So he was behaving in a reckless way.

Have I ever gone over the speed limit, for sure I have, if I crash and kill my passenger in the process, I deserve to be penalized for it. You cannot have a system where the prosecutor has to wait and see what the family of victim says.

What is more, lets look at the Snyder situation. They accepted Heatley apology and moved forward (which was a very big gesture by them). But if they had not, and right away came out demanding and pressing for Heatley to be charged to the full extent, wouldn't people be making the same argument that nothing is gained by putting heatley away? Wouldn't people then dismiss the Snyder's pleas to punish heatley as irrational since they lost a loved one? Thus, my point is no matter how the snyder's reacted people would argue Heatley should not be punished.

No one made Heatley play in the NHL and make millions, no one made him buy a car that cost 6 digits. He chose to do all that and drive recklessly that fatal night. Therefore, he has to be an adult and stand for the punishment. If he was just Danny Heatley from Calgary, who was driving an average car he would most likely be going to jail.

That is why you need laws that are based on principles and reasoning rather than pure emotion.

Ahh, ok...makes more sense now...the article I read said nothing of excessive speed....now I understand why there are criminal charges being filed...
Either way, what a horrible thing to happen to anyone...

Kim Wrote:I heard about this other kinda similar story. A guy is waiting by a red traffic light, the driver in the car next to him is pushing his buttons, pissing him off. When the light turns green both cars take off fast as they can, and race down the street.
Out of nowhere, I forget exactly what happened, a car shows up and the guy crashes into it. Badly injured as he was he gets out of the car, walks over to the car he hit to check on the people inside. When he peers inside he sees two women, they're both dead, their necks were broken on impact. But even worse still: it's his mom and her best friend.

Similar to that story, this just happened in Manitoba.

Kevin Boudreau, 18, phoned from the road to say he was running low on gas on his way home from Winnipeg, so his mother Doreen, 37, and her 60-year-old father Sylvain set out from their home in St. Laurent to bring him some fuel.

A short time later, the young man's GMC Jimmy crossed over the centre line of Highway 6 and struck the Taurus carrying his mother and grandfather. All three died in the intense fire from the 3 a.m. collision.

FYI The accident happened just outside of Buckhead area in Atlanta( the area that made Ray Lewis imfamous)

The sports radio here is saying the DA is between a rock and a hard place because of if he does not try the case the reaction could be that another spoiled rich athlete is getting off ah-la Jayson Williams but if he does try the case another reaction could be that is was an "incident" and since the family has forgiven him and wants to move on that they are making an example of him.

Most calls on sports radio think he should not get prison time but a real harsh sentence, like community service for 5+ years and donate a portion of his salary. but ATL fans really want a winning team since the Bravos and Hawk really stink this year and the Heatly is a key part in the Thrashers making the playoffs
