heatley faces indictment - thedarkcanuck - 07-02-2004

saw on the news today that dany heatley faces a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted of vehicular homicide. anyone think he should do time? my opinion is he should maybe receive a monetary fine...like 5-10 million(or more)...alot of good could be done for a lot of causes with such a large sum of money. he wasnt doing anything i,and i am sure many others, would be doing in his position of wealth. i couldnt even begin to imagine carrying that burden for the rest of my life. from all accounts, this guy has a good head on his shoulders so it makes it especially sad. i really think he is going to be a superstar above superstars(ala lemieux, gretz and the like)....if he has the oppurtunity

are you serious??
i cant believe that they would lay charges,
it was a total accident and was not meant to happen, the snyder family have forgiven him because they know how bad he feels about the whole situation. I'm sure that heatley would support the family of snyder financilly. Why they'd want to put the kid in jail for 15 years is beyond me??

If it was an average citizen who was in danny's situation, they would most likely be getting charged.

i understand the difference,
however, if in a similar situation, with the family's re-action and all,
i still stick by my comments

i just guessing here, but i bet that snyder was just as much as fault for the accident as heatley was, two young kids driving a fast car, seeing what it can do

I think that in any situationm if the family if forgiving (as are the snyders) then there should be no charges.

What?

The guy behind the wheel has the responsability to protect both lives. Even if Heatly was hearing words of encouragement, it was his immature lack of common sense that killed Dan Snyder. Blaming the victim doesn't cut it here.

Prz is right: fame, and even forgiveness, shouldn't let this kid beat the rap.

no doubt he should have some sort of punishment...but does he deserve 15 yrs?

- Kim - 07-03-2004

I'm with LoftyPines on this one.

I heard about this other kinda similar story. A guy is waiting by a red traffic light, the driver in the car next to him is pushing his buttons, pissing him off. When the light turns green both cars take off fast as they can, and race down the street.
Out of nowhere, I forget exactly what happened, a car shows up and the guy crashes into it. Badly injured as he was he gets out of the car, walks over to the car he hit to check on the people inside. When he peers inside he sees two women, they're both dead, their necks were broken on impact. But even worse still: it's his mom and her best friend.

Despite pleas from the family, the guy was incarcerated. So now the mom is dead and the guy is in jail. Whats the point of that? I'm sure the guy has learned his lesson, no way in hell will he ever race again, if he ever gets behind the driving wheel at all that is. What about his siblings and his dad? Not only did they lose their mom/wife but now they've also lost their brother/son. It's just not right.

i wasnt blaming the victim, i was just saying that he was probably an active party in how the events unfolded.

as far as punishing him goes, what do you think an appropriate punishment would be??

isnt jail time used in order to re-habilitate the guilty parties and protect the general public?? if so, do you honestly think that dany heatley deserves to be in jail?? who is that gonna benefit, the family that already forgave him?? that will probaly just cause them more heartache

not to computer savvy, but if you use this web address it should help you out

- thedarkcanuck - 07-03-2004

that is an old article...if you typed dany heatley on a search page, you would get several different links...and surely more recent ones.

Thanks for the link...

I agree, he does not deserve jail time....it was an accident, plain and simple. (careless and stupid, yes...criminal, no) If there was barely any alcohol in his system, then how can it be a criminal action?? I understand he could be sued for negligence, but jailtime?? It just doesn't seem right to me...

Kim, where was that accident you were talking about?? That is horrifying! I can't even begin to imagine...
