Maple Music really seems to have a thing for reviving the past because Doctor really are just a pumped up of version of The Watchmen.

If you like it loud and you like it with attitude than Doctor are the band for you. Just be warned that there's nothing spectacular about them musically.

The most memorable part of Doctor's set was watching in amazement how Daniel Greaves' glasses stayed perched on his head as he bounced around the stage.

Chart Attack's review of the show at NXNE. I don't take much stock in Chart Magazine. It seems to me like a cheerleading magazine for the Avrils, Matt Goods, and Sum 41s of the world. :nooooo

I really like the three tunes they have previewed on the website (thedoctorrocks.com; main page in the upper right corner)...

They call them a "pumped up verson of the Watchmen", like that's a BAD thing...

If you listen to "Balancing", you'll also hear Rush and Police influences...great tune...I'm definitely going to pick this disc up when it comes out... :thumb:

Wish I could have been there last night...

My top 5 changes all the time, but here's what I've been listening to lately:

1) The Lowest of the Low- Nothing Short of a Bullet
Meat & potatoes Canadian college rock at it's finest, complete with Ron Hawkins' poetically sharp lyrics. These guys play Buffalo on a regular basis, so I'm sure you've already heard of them. But if you haven't, this is the perfect introduction to one of the most legendary Canuck bands of all time. This album was recorded live in Toronto and Buffalo during their 2000 reunion tour. It's basically a live greatest hits disc. All their best stuff is here, including a bonus disc with 3 new studio tracks. (they have a new album coming out sometime this summer). Also check out their classic 1991 debut "Shakespeare, My Butt"

2) The Weakerthans- Reconstruction Site
My second favorite Canadian band of all time, right behind you know who. Singer/songwriter John K. Samson is right up there with Gord Downie and Leonard Cohen as one of the greatest storytellers this country has ever produced. As for their music, I would describe it as an eclectic mix of rock, punk, folk, and country. A little bit of everything.

3) Headstones- The Oracle of Hi-Fi
A potent slab of teeth-gnashing punk-inspired hard rock mayhem, courtesy of the baddest band in the land. These guys make bands like the Strokes and the Hives look like a bunch of sissies.

4) Kathleen Edwards- Failer
Kathleen's songs sound like they just rolled out of bed at 3 in the afternoon after a long night of binge drinking. If it's gritty, honest, heartfelt songwriting you're after, then this album definitely delivers.

5) Johnny Cash- American IV: The Man Comes Around
The title track alone is worth the price, not to mention his heart-breaking rendition of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt", which is quite possibly the best cover song I've ever heard in my life.

Honorable mentions:
Sam Roberts- We Were Born in a Flame
Sarah Harmer- All of Our Names
Neko Case- Blacklisted
Joel Plaskett Emergency- Truthfully Truthfully
Cuff the Duke- Life Stories for Minimun Wage
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros- Streetcore
Ben Harper- Diamonds on the Inside
Steve Earle- Jerusalem
Warren Zevon- The Wind
Cracker- The Golden Age
Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Buffalo Tom- Sleepy Eyed

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

Another suggestion of mine would be a band called 'Travis' They have 4 Cds out...but I would have to say that 'The Man Who' and 'The Invisible Band' are the best of the 4. They are really worthy of a listen if anyone needs any new suggestions.. :thumb: Of course, the list could go on Tongue

(Travis reminds me alot of a mix between Coldplay and James)
