5 CD's one must own, besides Hip Albums!
#1

I am all for expanding my music collection and would like to hear what some others think. There are so many different artists in Canada and in the US that I have never heard of that are really good. I don't want to miss out! Also because I have a few gift cards saved up from Holidays, etc..

If you had to recommend 5 CD's that everybody should own, they would be:

Canadian artists would be great. Silent Radar is the only one I've heard of off your list, great album...too bad they broke up, but a good thing they played their last show here in Buffalo. I have heard of the Headstones, but never actually listened to their music. I'll have to check some of them out...keep em coming!

Once you hear the Headstones version of Tweeter and the Monkey Man... they'll have ya for good. Kazaa is your friend...

That 3 1/2 hour Watchmen show at the Continental in Buffalo was magic.

Danny to the crowd upon taking the... uhh... stage: "Wow... (Surveying the... uhh... club) you've got a real nice place here." Smile

The guy at the door told me it was the best "Filthy hole to see a concert in New York."

Ok, after a little thought, here are my five (once again, with a definitive Can-con slant, and keeping it to more recent discs, and excluding the aforementioned Silent Radar):

1. The Trews - House of Ill Fame (for anyone interested, they'll be performing on the NHL Awards show tomorrow night)
2. Sam Roberts - We Were Born In A Flame
3. Sloan - Action Pact
4. Thornley - Come Again (yeah, I know it's Chad K.'s label, but the disc is damn good, especially cranked up after a bad day)
5. 54-40 - Radio Love Songs - The Singles Collection (still one of my favorite bands - having survived 20-plus years together, they never got the recognition they deserved IMHO... :thumb: )

As for other bands to keep an eye (ear) out for, the new stuff by the former Watchmen guys (Danny Greaves' new project "Doctor", and Joey Serlin's "Redline") also sound promising from the online snippits I've heard, but the jury's obviously still out until the discs are released...

I'm sure the minute I hit Submit, I'll think of a half-dozen more...

Great topic, btw! :thumb:
