I would just as soon purchase the cd in some store or another myself. I rememeber skipping class back in grade 11 to buy Music @ Work the second the store opened. It was all about the trek to get the album.

The Heron Outside Wrote:A bonus...if "Summer's Killing Us" really is the first single for the states, then we'll get to hear two new Hip singles before the album's release, maybe before we hear ANYTHING from the album...a definite plus!
If memory serves, they've done this (i.e. release different tracks in Canada/US) several times before. When UTH came out, they released Blow as the lead single north of the 49th, but I recall a clip of the band sitting in a Seattle radio studio discussing NOIS as the lead-off single (NOIS was the second single released to Canada)...

I imagine the various labels decide which tune will best sell the album to their constituency...It could be that the "anti-US" interpretation some people have taken from VS may have caused Rounder to look at something else to promote IBE in the States...

You're right, though, if it's true, we should get a two-for-one "first single" as a result...unless, of course, our good friends to the south don't feel like sharing...After the puretracks thing, you never know...

Totally...that's how you get the stories!! One time while buying the latest R.E.M. record, I got talking to someone else in line and they became one of my good friends and bootleg trading sources. And then I'll never forget that I was on the way to HMV to buy Bob Dylan's new album at opening time when I heard that the World Trade Centres had been attacked. When somebody mentioned it, I was already on the bus downtown and I jumped off at the first restaurant I knew that had TVs before the second tower collapsed...even though that's not exactly a "fun" story, every single time I listen to Dylan's album, it takes me back to that very day. Wouldn't be the same if I had pre-ordered it through the net and had it mailed to me!

Anyone else remember when TATH and Live Between us came out on Saturdays? TATH was my first Hip album, I remember buying it the day it came out...it's not like I remember moments receiving the mail fondly.

Yeah there was something special about the Saturday release. LBU was my first "day of" purchase.

I've said it before: it's going to a good week for rock and roll. New Hip and Old 97's records on the Tuesday. Dave Matthews Band in Toronto on the 30th. Maybe, just maybe if I'm stupid, Sam Roberts in Quebec City on July 1st (REALLY stupid)

Also a note from the front page comments, if you hadn't seen it, turns out Ballroom is now You're Everywhere, and the lead off track is dedicated to Dan Snyder

Cheers

Absolutely...taking it to another level, I remember lining up outside the old "House of Sounds" in Kingston at midnight in anticipation of FC's release (October 1992 if memory serves). I remember it was packed with literally hundreds of fans and they had the disc blasting throughout the store...one of my roommates actually won an autographed litho of the FC cover that night...

I've also pre-ordered CDs in the past...it's just not the same...

For the record, the album is 44:03 in length. Unless I screwed up somewhere with the math, that is.

That sounds about right, remember PP clocked in at 44 minutes exactly.

Yeah, I also remember lining up outside the old House of Sounds back in Kingston. CKLC was playing The Hip all the time that night, and there were lots of rumours that the boys were going to show up at the store. Of course, that never happened, but the atmosphere was still incredible. Nothing like a group of die hard Hip fans in their home town.

As for this CD, I think I might have to order it online... I'll be out of the country when it's released, and it would be nice to have it waiting for me when I get back.

I was also there that night at House of Sounds, and if I remember correctly, with every purchase you received a Gargoyle pin. What a great night, and I sure hope that one of the record stores in Toronto has a midngith release event!

Can't agree more. One of my favourite Hip memories is waiting in line at the local recod shop in Saskatoon (Music Baron... R.I.P.) around midnight for the release of Phantom Power. The store had the Hip playing and hourly specials on Hip albums. The people in line were awesome and it was an awesome night. I got home that night, popped the cd in the player and fell asleep listening to the first track! I could have bought the cd in the morning because I didn't even listen to it that night...well I guess subcontiously I heard it and it was awesome! Good times!
