Oh eeep. Jen, just as I think I am going to be productive, get some Christmas shopping done, give the cat a bath, update my resume...you go and create a thread like this... *snarl* Actually...I think it's a great topic...just going to require lots of thinking and lyrical research and analysis...Anyways...songs...
Barenaked Ladies- For You- This is from their lastest effort "Everything to Everyone" and the last two lines of the chorus just ripped out my heart and read my mind...simultaneously. "If I hide myself wherever I go, am I ever really there?".
Bruce Springsteen- The River -This song asks the ultimate question about ambitions and ideals..."Is a dream a lie if it don't come true, or is it something worse?"... *sigh* It seems to be the ageless question of the artistic, or at least the restless.
Ben Folds - Still Fighting It - Sums up all my sentiments about how I feel in this time in my life...not a child, not an independent adult, and fighting like hell to figure it all out.. "Everybody knows it hurts to grow up and everybody does. It's so weird to be back here"
That's all I can come up with for now...I'm sure th list will be edited/added upon in due time.

If you see something that looks like a star
And it's shooting up out of the ground
And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
And you just can't escape from the sound
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you
We were children once, playing with toys
And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound of
The low spark of high-heeled boys
The percentage you're paying is too high priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest was
The low spark of high-heeled boys
If you had just a minute to breathe and they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance?
Or something similar as this? Don't worry too much
It'll happen to you as sure as your sorrows are joys
And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound of
The low spark of high-heeled boys
If I gave you everything that I owned and asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me as I would for you?
Or take me for a ride, and strip me of everything including my pride
But spirit is something that no one destroys
And the sound that I'm hearing is only the sound
The low spark of high-heeled boys

Those were the days - Mary Hopkins
I was 11 years old and my girlfriend was the only one with a recordplayer.. Very special in 1968. We danced, like little girls do, for hours and hours… Always on this song.
Listen to the ocean - Nina & Frederik
I was 7 months pregnant (after a miscarriage from 4 month) when my husbands father died. Feeling very insecure and frightened something would go wrong with this baby too, I listened in my rockingchair to this song to get calm again. And it helped cause my son is almost 21 now..
Stairway to heaven – Led Zeppelin and Tears in Heaven – Eric Clapton
On 01-01-2001 our village suffered from a great tragidy when a local pub caught fire. 14 youngsters died and 380 got injured. 50 of them very very badly. We were lucky cause our eldest son was ill that night. It saved his life. Friends, classmates weren’t that lucky. Those two songs remember me to the horror of that night.
Lookin’ out the window – SRV
This song makes me feel very special and happy…
Grace too – TTH
This is my favourite hipsong I guess. It’s always a difficult choice between Another Midnight and Grace… and it depends on how I feel.. but today it’s Grace day. I hoped the Hip would play song on the concert I attented in Amsterdam, but they didn’t.

This is hard... there are many that match certain moments so it is hard to narrow them down
Some that i can think of:
Radiohead- Fake Plastic Trees... (always love this, the story of my life... "if I could be, who you wanted, all the time")
Neil Young- Harvest Moon (so sweet, my ideal.. "i'm still in love with you, I wanna see you dance again")
Counting Crows- 'Round Here... ("and she walks along the edge, where the ocean meets the land, just like she's walking on a wire in the circus"... always used to do this... "she has trouble acting normal when she's nervous"... heh that's me... eccentricity)
REM- Everybody Hurts.... thanks :thumb:
Hip- Scared (first dance)
