That's right, and the AEW tour was the best ever. Of course, I can't relate it to the small theatre tour, because they SKIPPED THE MARITIMES...the first and only thing that Hip have EVER done that really pissed me off. They went from BC to Quebec and then it was off to Europe. Theynever bothered to finish the crossing of the continent. I can't even imagine how astounding a show in the Cohn or Neptune Theatre would have been...

i'm surprised that more of you guys arent saying the watchmen,
i think that they are by far the best opening band that has played with the hip, always a solid set.

Sloan opened for them at 6.8.00 Shepherd's Bush, I know that just from the bootleg...I'm assuming they did a few more shows for them during that tour....

It's interesting that a couple of people mentioned the Headstones, but you're out of luck - I heard this very morning that the Headstones have decided to call it a day and broken up. I never cared for them all that much...they had a song or two I liked. Oh well.

What about Blue Rodeo... their website has a list of 10 connections Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip share with Jim Cuddy and Blue Rodeo...
1. Go(o)d Ol' Gord and Jim Cuddy play hockey together...
2. They both played Kumbaya together...
3. Blue Rodeo have recorded in the Bathouse (owned by the Hip)
4. Blue Rodeos Bob Egan played on numerous tracks on Phantom Power...
5. The Hip invited Blue Rodeo to open for them at the Old Fort Henry Show in 1991,
and so forth and so forth...
I would imagine both bands are in good standing...
P.S: If you have ever seen the interview with Gord Downie from 1998 with some muchmusic VJ, she asks Gord if he had any regrets...
He said not touring with Rush in '95... do you think if they had, which was right after SNL, there success in the US would have increased dramatically?

as well the watchmen are ok but there is a reason they are disolving-i thought sam roberts was a great opener along with sarah harmer- i think bands that are just about finished such as the watchmen, headstones, 54-40 would be beer drinking time . i think the only reason that the watchmen did shows with the hip last year was a favor to jake gold who manages them also- -now he has sass jordan left what a guy... i personally would like to see some younger bands - maybe bands most dont hear or take the time to look into - there are a ton of great canadian bands/acts- joel plaskett emergency, hawksley workman, cuff the duke, the weakerthans, broken social scene, metric,... etc --- Sloan is good but at the same time i cant see them being opening acts other then festivals for canadian bands anymore... it all depends on the record label and management trying to push a new band into the spotlight too

Joel Plaskett! Of course! How could I have forgotten about a hometown boy...you put me to shame, Ryan! Great idea. In terms of other Halifax talent, I'd like to see the Trews get a chance to open for a big band...they rock!

Yeah he rocks! he has a new double albulm coming out the first single is come on teacher - a thrush hermit tune hes revamping- hes playing the marquee club oct 25th check him out if you havent -great live show... ive heard good things about the trews too ---

How about Lowest of the Low? I love the band and their sound goes pretty well with the Hip's sound. I dont know if they are even together still, i do remember them breaking up along time ago but got back together. Sloan's all right, good catchy songs but a little too predictable for my taste.
