So it seems as if no one can think of anything but the new Hip album, so I'll throw out a question-Who do you think would make an ideal opening band for The Hip's next tour? (Assuming they do a standard arena tour, but who knows what they'll pull) And also, who do you think has been The Hip's best opening band? For me, I'd like to see The Weakerthans open up for them, their new album is great and John K. Samson is a great lyricist. And the Hammer NYE shows offered the best opening bands, Sarah Harmer and Sam Roberts, wow, two of my favourite acts, it was truly a great line-up. So what does everyone else think?
2 opening bands is just too much, makes the night too long.
54-40 got a new album out, wouldnt mind seeing them.
54-40 would be pretty cool to see open for the Hip.
High
Sloan would be a killer opening band.
I wouldn't mind seeing Sam Roberts again. I saw them open for the hip in Syracuse. They are really good. Go Hip!

Best Opening Band that I have seen
No Doubt, Headstones, Watchmen, Moxy Fruvous
Best Band The Hip to open for that I have seen
Wilco
Worst Opening Band that I have seen
Clarissa, Black Sheep
As far as the new tour, I really do not care but hopefully they are good. I saw a few bands that I never heard of and liked them after seeing them open. I see it as a bonus
I saw The Headstones open for The Hip in Kingston at Richardson Stadium about 10 years ago. They were great! If they were still together, that would be a great combination.
Since that's no longer possible, I would really like to see a Sloan / Hip drive-in double feature!

Call me crazy but I get a kick out of Bif Naked live.
She is great live and suprisingly enough, she has a decent amount of good tunes.
54-40 would be good too. Come to think of it, how about Big Sugar?
mats.
they should skip the opening act. they are big enough, and have enough material to perform for at least 2 hours straight, if not more. i know this will never happen, because they appreciate music and new talent too much, but hey..a guy could dream no? i don't think that's too cocky of them...btw, Sam Roberts was great opening for them. i've seen a couple of bar shows in the US where half the crowd is Canadian anyways, and no one wants to see or hear the opening act, and you know in Canada at an arena show, everyone is there to see them, no one else, sorry, but that's the way it is
Best openers I have seen: Odds, Change of Heart, Wilco, Matthew Sweet, Blues Traveler, and of Course SAM ROBERTS
I think the best opening band they could get for the upcoming tour would be Limblifter...they are great live and need a little help from a big name band like the Hip to get them jumpstarted again.

Even though Big Sugar are breaking up when the current tour is done, they'd be the perfect band to open for the Hip - I've heard their 2-hour shows get a little too long and loud, but their short shows are awesome.
Nathan Wiley was a pretty good opener here in Halifax, but I'd rather see SLOAN...[/b]
Yeah I really like Nathan Wiley, he opened for Gord at the Lee's show.
He's not "big" enough though to open for the hip, I don't think.
I wouldn't mind Sloan although I don't really like them. I saw them when they opened for Oasis last year.
They are not bad though, and would probably fit well with the hip. :thumb:
I think Wilco, Blues Traveler and Sam Roberts are in my opinion the best bands that have opened for them.
I think that Hawksley Workman, the Weakerthans, or Sloan would be great openers. I'd love to see Frank Black open for them as well.
My 1/2 Cent....I'd say the Best Opener was Sam, BT, and I did like the 1 -2 combination of Odds and Change of Heart back in the day...95 DFN tour. It would be KILLER if the could get Sloan on the Bill :thumb: I've never seen their live gig but I love their Musik
Sloan kick ass live.
