Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I actually downloaded 2 or 3 songs from every suggestion you gave! (Exept for the ones i already have heard)

Although most of these bands are good, there are none that I consider like the Hip. I think the closest is The Watchmen, and I do have a few of their CD's.

I think my conclusion is that there is no such thing as a band like the Hip. There is only THE Hip! I guess that when you like something so much, something else will never completley satisfy you.

Just for fun, here is my second favorite band - Seven Mary Three. Their name is kind of wierd. If you have not heard them, listen to some stuff off of their first album, "American Standard (1995)" It is a bit Hipish.

Agree with all of those. As well as Wilco, Jimi Hendrix, Oysterhead, Queens of the Stone Age, Audioslave, Tool, Beck, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Big Sugar, Ryan Adams, Guster, Gov't Mule, Black Sabbath and soooo many more.

Thanks for the music info guys! I'm also in the same situation. I'm sure my wife is getting tired of me listening to the same hip CDs. Although, I think Sara Harmer is excellent! I'm also learning to play the guitar and I'm always looking for cool music to "try" to play. I just started with the basics like "fiddler's green" and "ABAC"...one day I'll learn "yellow leddbetter" by Pearl Jam(looong time from now)

hmmm so many bands so little time lol...well i started out with Rush, dont listen to them too much anymore, though Ghostrider is an excellent song. Coldplay is good, Bourbon Tabernacle Choir and Chris Brown and Kate Fenner's solo stuff is excellent. Mark Knopfler, LOTW, Gaelic Storm, and Great Big Sea come to mind. I forgot who mentioned listening to old blues, but excellent suggestion...Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy and Keb Mo are excellent starting points. Enjoy!

my problem as well. used to play the dead all the time (saw 80 shows), but got burned. try jayhawks, los lobos ,
