I'm frustrated. I love the Hip, but i'm finding that I hardley like any other bands anymore. I have listened to tons of bands over the years and other favorites have been Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Crowes, 7 Mary 3 and The Odds, but out of those bands, they have either broken up or they are just not as good to me anymore.
I love music and I'm a musician myself. BUT, it seems strange to me that I don't like any other band nearly as much as the Hip.
Does anyone have any suggestions of bands that are even remotley like the Hip? I would like to get into some new stuff.

hock:
I guess this post contradicts my signature!

Dave Matthews Band
U2
Phish
Pearl Jam
Ben Folds (Five)
Howie Day
David Gray
The New Deal
just to name a few, I listen to alot of stuff. Mostly bands that allow taping.
REM,Lowest of the Low, Radiohead - Although Radiohead's music is not really compareable to the Hip , I liked their music up to "OK Computer" Their albums after that were a little too far out for me.

This stuff really is not like the Hip either, I think its good to listen to a broad amount of music.
I find the same thing has happened to me. Truthfully, nothing beats the hip. However, I've been known to listen to some Hawksley Workman or Sam Roberts for a change. Have a listen.
i see you like the black crowes try chris robinson's new earth mud.
jeff buckley- ,catherine wheel, weezer, nada surf, paloalto, dishwalla,
a singer named john lardieri song is firecracker, well these bands i really like though they are not similar to the hip. but great music none the less

I agree with Lance , a good balance of music is a great thing. There's so much great music out there to be discovered . I think by being Hip fans we can all attest to that.

Great Band
Check out the Skydiggers and Bluerodeo, Hayden, Sarah Harmer. Try listening to some old jazz or blues. It may not be similar to the Hip but the Hip probably wouldn't be who they are(or sound the way they do rather) if it weren't for other artists from the past. I don't think you should limit yourself when it comes to music, it is kind of shitty though right now. There's this other good band called the Beatles you might want to check out. I always thought the Beatles were cheesy and then one day I realised how amazing they truly were/are. Ben Harper is a really good artist you may want to check out too.
I've been diggin' Martin Sexton, Therapy? and Ben Folds lately.
Cheers!
Thanks for your input guys. It's not that I'm limiting myself intentionally.
I'll check out your suggestions.

Funny...I seem to be in the same situation!
All I listen to mostly is the hip.
I would recommend giving Incubus a listen to!
They are nothing like the hip...but excellent music and lyric's.
oh i forgot a few bands . the pixies , caroline's spine , the watchmen,
I am in a very similar situation, I can't get enough of the HIP, and satisfy my off-days with Pearl Jam ( they follow a very similar pattern in regards to the formation of musical signature over the last 10 years ). But as I was logged on to KaZaa I glanced at my '95 ARA poster and decided to give some of the bands who accompanied the HIP that year a chance. That being said, for a sound the HIP enjoy try:
- Spirit of the West ( Less alt-rock sound )
- Matthew Sweet
- The Inbreds ( More of a Punk sound )
- Blues Traveler
I didn't know until I was searching these bands that Matthew Sweet actually has a song called 'Day For Night'. I'm assuming that this is where the HIP got the title of their best ( in my opinion CD ). Does anyone else have any comments about this 'coincidence'?
