There's nothing wrong with a solid discussion everyone, agreeing all the time would be boring. Just respect each other. Jeromio, if a song doesn't do it for someone, you can't change that. Everybody has a different taste, luckily i might add.

Mornin' folks...phew, I go away for the evening, come back and read this thread and wow, quite the discussion. Well to answer Jeromio's questions...
"...kari, how are you able to have all these conversations with Gord? I mean how can I get in on one of these, life long dream..."
Well it's quite easy, I see them before and after small venue concerts that I go to. I could never, however, get this opportunity in Canada at the bigger shows when security is tight. But I'd say I've talked to the guys on 8 to 10 occasions in the past. One time I shot the breeze with them at this radio station lobby for an hour, they were in no hurry, apparently. They are nice gentlemen! Anyway, that answers that.
...."she's the horrible esthete
and she hate her ugly feet
and at all place where friends all meet
she take her shoes off and invites everyone to see"
gotta love this line! If this doesn't perfectly explain a comfort only found within friends, I don't know what to say!..."
Is it just me, or does this guy try to capture every waking moment with a Hip quote?? So sad...
But you know, I agree with Eags in that even if some of Gord's lyrics are titalating, it doesn't mean we'd particularily enjoy the song. And vice versa, a song might have a catchy tune, but the lyrics could blow. And that goes for any band or singer out there, not just The Hip.

you guys all try and take the same stand with me, yeah I am a loser cause all I talk about is hip lyrics, sure gang up, I guess some people feel they must have the last word, well I'll let you have that after this, I'm getting bored with this.
You think its sad that I talk hip lyrics at a site dedicated to the tragically hip, I don't know what to say about that, I get cast out cause I was staying true to a theme.......weird. I guess if I went to a website for Barney, I better keep the conversation about purple dinosaurs to a minimum. I think you all are taking this way too personally, I mean you can try call me names, pass all these judgements and predict my social manner, when all I was trying to do in the beginning was say that there isn't a song that has touched me at a certain level. And for that I can't agree that there is a song I am least fond of. I am shocked that there isn't a person here that can't see where i am coming from. and of course here it comes, for the critics........"LETS BE FRIENDS OR DIE", that line might have set you all up for some interesting rebutal, but I respect everyone here, even though i may have used some poor choice of words in my original post, I'm young and I wasn't expecting everyone to go ballistic on me. A quote of the day, thats an interesting thought TLB, maybe you should try and set that up. Here I'll start if anyones interested. I hope we can all show a little more love towards each other. After all we are here for a common reason right? I wonder what kind of dinosaur family Barney's from anyways, he looks a little like a herbavore but just never know till see their chompers. Sorry for the sarcasm.

Woah, someone didn't eat their Wheaties today!!
We're just having some fun here. We all get along well. I take no offense to anyone. In one ear, out the other.
But Jeromio, what do you expect - you come in here and pretty well call us pathetic Hip fans because we have some songs we dislike of them. Did you not expect some rebutal to that?? Just because I dislike some of their songs, doesn't mean I'm not a diehard! There are certain actors I like, but they are in some pretty sucky movies sometimes. There are certain authors and poets I like, but sometimes their words are just a little 'too' out there or don't flow together. Doesn't mean that I am not a true fan of anything...
My quote of the day..."If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen".

Hip songs I actively dislike:
Evelyn
Cemetary Sideroad
All-Canadian Surf Club
Freak Turbulence
Wild Mountain Honey
Train Overnight
All Tore Up
Coconut Cream is a wonderful song, nice weird guitar parts like the mighty 700 ft. ceiling, fun lyrics and an interesting ending.
I also don't care much for 50 Mission Cap... the music itself is pretty good but its wrecked on album by the godawful production and in concert by the fratboy flag-waving singalong. The lyrics... I guess I probably need to be Canadian to appreciate them, but just singing the back of a hockey card... hmm...

I find it interesting in light of all the heaviness....?!.... that there really only seems to be a few songs which keep getting mentioned so far (barring a few single votes for several songs).
Freak Turbulence
Butts Wigglin'
Coconut Cream
Wild Mountain Honey
Are You Ready
I guess this wouldn't make the best encore....

I can imagine even the Hip members themselves will have their favourite and their less favourite songs. And why not.. it's only human... Nothing wrong with that...
