What hip song are you most likely to skip?
If you were making a mix cd of all hip songs it would be last!
If they played it live you would consider it a waste of time (this should cause some bickering!).

Mine is definitely The Apartment Song. I've always disliked that sucker from the moment I heard it. A close second - Tiger the Lion.

All hip songs are good!! Listen to Tiger the Lion again!!!!!!!!!!! EPIC ENDING!! If I must choose one that bothers me, I'm going to have to go with....Train Overnight.

tiger the lion used to really bother me.
then i got the whole john cage thing and changed my opinion.
now i love it in a very tense and uncomfortable way. When Lake Fever hits it makes the whole thing worthwhile. Both songs benefit from their proximity to each other in my opinion.

Tough question...
For me it's a toss-up between Coconut Cream and Butts Wigglin', the two tracks that drag TATH well down my favorite album list...
(...although, in hindsight, the airplane engine at the conclusion of CC would make for an interesting lead into Silver Jet on a compilation CD now wouldn't it?...)

Coconut cream (the song at least) is pretty bad, but as far as I'm concerned, "Are You Ready?" is the worst. It's just cheesy.

I like "Butts Wigglin", "The Luxury", and "Lake Fever" alot. I'm a bit surprised by these responses.
My least favourite is "The Bastard". I never "got" "Purple Italians and Carmalized Onions".

Music At Work. I know Bruce McCullough won a music award for directing that video and all, but I'm still not too crazy about that video either.

definitely Coconut Cream
but in a very close 2nd: Are You Ready (I love the rest of IVL)
AYR comes off like a jumbled mess and, to me, flies in the face of their string of excellent album openers, which all seem to be concert staples (Blow, Bones, Courage, Grace, Gift, Poets, MMAW)
I would have much rather had Ultra Mundane on IVL instead of AYR, but it's great they held back an awesome song like Mundane for The Hip Club.

I can't really call any of you guys true hip fans. First of all if anyone of you were literate, you would realize there isn't a song out there that Gord hasn't made a lyrical masterpiece out of. AND TO THE SHMUCKS THAT PICKED THE LUXURY AS A SHITTY SONG! WELL if this line isn't one of the best all time hip lyrics please shot me:

Well you know (referring to the post before this one), everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And quite honestly, any 'true' Hip fan would have the sense to truly rate their songs, and realise that not all of their songs are gems. I've been a diehard for 14 years. I've seen them in concert 20 times to date. And even though I swear Gord Downie is God (snicker), I will be first to admit to his face even that certain songs just don't cut it, lyrically and musically. I've had this discussion with him and Gord Sinclair in detail on one particular occasion, where he wanted to know which songs I personally liked and disliked, and for what reasons. I was honest. I wasn't going to pad my answer just because i was speaking to The Hip. And actually, Gord D said I was a 'true' fan because I had criticisms of the band and their music, and that...and I quote...'any random fan that would say all their songs rock'. They appreciated my honestly, and I had no problem being frank with them. And besides, people are going to like or dislike songs for their own personal reasons (be it musical taste, etc), so just because you dislike a Hip song doesn't mean we suck as fans. Saying all their songs rock is off the mark. Those type of fans who think The Hip can do no wrong are likely the college-frat-beer-guzzlin'-flag-waving-posher-types that we hate at their live shows.
