Sam Roberts Band and The Stills in Toronto last night. Pretty good double bill but I wasn't a particular fan of the venue for this type of show (Danforth Music Hall - an old theatre). I would have enjoyed it more if it had been somewhere like the Phoenix or Kool Haus.

I'm off to see Feeder on saturday, which I'd forgotten about. I'm interviewing the support band (The Chemists, they're pretty good) so hopefully I'll get a chance to chat to the Feeder lads too.

In the past month I've caught Matt Mays and El Torpedo (Marginally awesome, though the opening band, Arkells, was all kinds of awesome) Jason Collett (Who sounded exactly like you'd expect him to sound the day after Halloween. His hangover was palpable) and the other night I was asked by the Vancouver Sun to cover Jason Mraz. Anybody who knows anything about his music knows what a task this was. But it was slightly entertaining and I tried damn hard not t'be too bias:

saw the deerhunter/times new viking show the week before last.
went for tnv. unfortunately they only played half an hour. and appeared to have "mailed it in."
by far the least favourite of the three times i've seen them.
was only familiar with a couple deerhunter tunes heading in and gotta say i found 'em incredibly, painfully dull live.
now own the latest album and it has a lot of cool stuff, but just as much meandering bunk.
prior to that saw danko jones both in london and toronto.
pretty sure they played the same set list -- which shocked me.
have seen 'em loads of times and always liked how much they shuffled stuff.
shows were great though and never too loud kicks ass. unfortunately i'm in the minority on this one, as i rate it as my favourite danko album. that they played only three songs from it might suggest they've quit on it. or something.
also saw boston spaceships in cleveland/ann arbor and dayton. the ann arbor gig was hands down my favourite post-gbv pollard show. magic.

It was an awesome night...good venue to get close to them for sure haha.

Hard Road
Up Sister
Maria

The lions of Kalahari
Them Kids
Where have all the good people gone
encore;
Detroit '67

I just saw the best concert of my life on the 29th. Neil Young came to Halifax and delivered the goods. Unbelievable show put on by the legend of all legends. "HHMM" pretty much had me in tears because it was so awesome. :jump :jump The man is in his sixties and he's still putting on first rate shows. Totally unreal. :jump :jump

Had the pleasant misfortune of taking in AC/DC live the other night. I know some have griped about the show not being worth the exorbitant ticket price. While I can agree with that, I was given a free reviewer's seat. Though it took every ounce of my conscience not to sell the seat for the $300 I was immediately offered.
They've got a good schtick going and the crowd seemed to dig it. I guess that's all an AC/DC fan can ask for. My review can be found here:

Also, caught Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs last week as well. Anybody who's a fan of dirty country and blues with a soulful voice should check her out.

I've gotta say, Nick Cave was good when I saw him back in May, but last week he was on blistering form. The full review will be up in a day or two, but suffice it to say that Emma and I managed to get right near the front and I had the weird experience of having a fity year old mustachioed Australian singing the cvhorus to a song called Deanna while staring right at me!
Cracking night. The support band (Tenebrous Liar) were one of the worst 'pro' bands I've ever seen though. Imagine Wintersleep on heavy Prozac and with absolutely no difference in sound from o0ne track to the next... that flatters them.
