Another List.. Top 100 Bands of All Time

cferneyh Wrote:I'd love you to show me one reference - any reference whatsoever - that even remotely suggests that the guys in Pearl Jam were into KISS growing up. Just one.

I could find you dozens. Literally.

"[Stone] Gossard was such a huge Kiss fan that at one point he tried to make Kiss shoes for himself, nailing two-by-fours to a pair of thin-soled Capezios."

"...Mike was a disciple of Kiss, Aerosmith, and AC/DC just as Jeff and Stone had been..."

"Everything I know, I stole directly from Ace Frehley, Angus Young, and Keith Richards." -- Mike McCready

"Eddie dressed up like Kiss just like everybody else." -- Dave Abbruzzese

I found these four all in the same place: Kim Neely's book Five Against One. But if you read any interview with Mike McCready re. his guitar playing, he'll gush about Kiss; for that matter, so will lots of other Seattle scene musicians as well.

it's a good thing this hasn't turned into a "Kiss bad, Pearl Jam good" debate...

Well that was something I didn't expect to see. Mind you....

Mike: Yeah, I think so…I think I learned early…I took lessons early on when I was like ten or eleven, and then I learned some technical things… but I stopped, I just kind of wanted to learn Kiss songs and Aerosmith songs back in the day and I learned from playing off of records…

I'm fairly certain that I listened to Duran Duran when I was 10 or 11. It hardly defines my musical tastes today.

from rollingstone.com

"Led Zeppelin—I think that's the band we always looked toward," says Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament. "

...nobody said anything about Zep...i think it's a given that pretty much every rock'n'roll band of the past 30 years or so now has been influenced by the Zep (wether it be directly/indirectly)...

From this months Q magazine 'cash for questions'

I know it was all sensationalised by the media at the time, but I recall Curt Kobain saying that some of your first album was a "cock-rock crossover". Who is your favourite cock-rock band?

Jeff Ament: Free are my favorite cock-rock band. There was a real '60s posturing about them, but it was just heavy blues basically.

Matt Cameron: We had Mr Cock Rock himself come to our show at the Astoria. Mr Bob Plant. They [Led Zeppelin] are definitely numero uno.

JA: Queen.

MC: Queen are super-special. The idea of what cock rock meant to them went over my head because I was 13 when I first listened to them. I didn't understand the other side of the equation.

Stone Gossard: Van Halen, one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

Mike McCready: Or Kiss.

JA: There's so many to choose from, man. Jesus!

What a joke.
This list has absolutely no credibility.

The stones? Are you kidding? I'll give you the who, but the stones are shit. So is there bullshit marketing machine. Van Halen back in the david lee roth era... that band could turn piss to gasoline!

Loved the list of drummers! Neil Peart is definitely my # 1 as well. Nice to see Stuart Copeland broke the top 20. Ever heard regatta de blanc? Awesome drum solo!!
