Great win by Canada, a truly dominant team in every way. They were the class of the tournament, you didn't see them pointing at themselves like they are rock stars after they defeat a team, like Overchicken (Sp?)and the Russians did. Canada should be proud, we played hard clean, and dominated. We didn't resort to crosschecking people in the face or gloating over our wins. A little nationalistic pride is in order when a team carrying your countries flag wins with class. The russians would't have been booed had they shown class the game before against the US, they showed an utter disrespect for them and reaped the results of that when they were booed. You don't cheer a team that acted the way the Russians did, that's the way it is. What goes around comes around, and the Russians had it coming. Back to the tourny, great to see Phaneuf do so great, there are so many stars on that team, just an amazing team... and Tiger, what would make you happy ? You haven't said a positive thing about their victory. You've chosen to focus on the fans. Did you watch for the fans, or the kids giving it their all on the ice ?

Tell you what - find me a clip of Gretzky or Sakic bailing on their team due to "injury", right when they are needed most. Then show me a clip of Gretzky or Sakic taunting the opposition in a semi-final romp.

The issue isn't Ovechkin's toughness (or lackthereof). The issue is that when he was most needed to step up he suddenly left the bench with an apparent injury - one that no one or no camera seemed to pick up the cause of. When the game was over, he was bawling like a baby, yet 48 hours before he was taunting the American team and American fans during their 7-2 win. Clearly the guy is lacking character, which is something that Gretzky and Sakic have in spades.

How do you know Ovechkin wasn't legitimately injured? He must be a great player because he's the only guy team Canada concentrated on during the game. You didn't see Crosby being the target of such physical play. That's all fine and I like the physical aspect of the game, and Phaneuf is a truck, but Canada knew if they all took shots at Ovechkin their chances of winning went up. Therefore, Ovechkin was taken off his game and didn't seem to have his A-game anyway. Great strategy by Canada but Ovechkin could have been injured. Maybe Cam Barker should be questioned for not playing. Who knows?

IMO, I think the Canadians have as much arrogance as the Russians. Seeing them hug and showboat after a goal makes me turn the channel. I guess I don't have the love and admiration of these players as most Canadian fans. Do you think Crosby or Carter or Phaneuf or Bergeron give a crap about how my life is going or anyone else's life for that matter? Why should I feel bad for them if they lose or ecstatic if they win? It's a hockey game and it's good that they won but I'm not happy for any individual player. I could care less if they accomplish something because they are just a bunch of teenage kids. The only difference between them and some kids down my street is that they can play hockey a little better. It doesn't make me care for their lives any differently than I care for people in general. So Ovechkin is a crybaby egomaniac but Crosby is a good kid? The same Crosby that showed up the other team by putting the puck on the blade of his stick and scoring a showboat goal a while back while his team was already winning by a large margin? How is Crosby not a showboat? I smell double standard.

It amazes me that people are so critical of this kid without knowing the facts. Maybe he really was injured. He can't score 5 a night you know. Maybe one of the borderline charges the Canadian players took at him injured his shoulder.

Don't really have time before work to properly respond to your post, but a few quick points. Yes Crosby was targeted by other teams, if you watched the games you would have seen that. Gretzky was crosschecked, you remember when Gary Suter crosschecked him from behind and took him out of the 91 Canada Cup. Of course Corson was a quitter, but in his defense he had some mental health issues. Who's saying Gretzky's the Messiah? Keep this perspective, this is hockey, and last I looked it was being discussed in that context. The team represented our country in a manner that makes me proud, with their class and skill.

(2) Why should Crosby or Carter or Phaneuf or Bergeron give a crap about how your life is going? Easily the strangest statement in your ramble of strange statements.
(3) The same Crosby that showed up the other team by putting the puck on the blade of his stick and scoring a showboat goal a while back while his team was already winning by a large margin? - I think there's a weeeeeeeee bit of a difference between a 16 year old doing something like this, and a 19 year old openly taunting fans and the opposition. Some see what Crosby did as being creative. Others saw it as him being a showboat. The point is, it depends on your vantage point. But what Ovechkin (and Malkin) did was pure taunting.

Why do you even bother watching then. In case you haven't figured this out yet, this tourney is a VERY big deal to these kids.

Seriously man, with how much these hockey playing teenagers bother you, I really don't understand why you even watch. Canada won with arguably the most dominating performance in the history of this tournament, and they did with class and sportsmanship. If that doesn't make you feel proud of the kids representing your country, than I think you've got some larger issues.

AHHHHHHHH Do you not go nuts in your living room or the bar when Canada scores a goal. I'm sure the hockey players are quite excited to be kicking some ass....especially since these same damn russians beat Canada last year so it's Canada's turn this year. I think...say 95% of people who score a goal celebrate it!!!!!!!!

Not only that, he seems to have trouble grasping the magnitude of being a teenager and representing your country in an international tourney that millions of fellow countrymen and women are watching. Apparently when you are a teenager and you are in the midst of the biggest moment of your life, you shouldn't celebrate when you do something great.

Haha, no kidding, eh. Hugging and celebrating after a goal? I seem to remember doing quite a bit of that when my hockey team won the city championships back when I was 16. And shame on us for doing so. What a bunch of showboaters we were back then. :roll:
