Well I went to the show last night, and all I got to say is both of these bands should really think of packing it in for good.

I haven't seen the Hip since the Show at Lee's Palace 3-4 years back ( I think). And I gotta say I was completely bored with the performance. Gord seems to have resorted to having to entertain the crowd and himself with a white hankie by waving and throwing it around and hopefully catching it. Not to mention his singing, it was brutal, really no effort put into singing at all. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because the ACC was 3/4 empty, but as it filled he was still pretty bad, and everyone around us tended to agree. Over all it was the worst Hip performance I have seen, and I am very glad I did not have to pay for it. And it is easy for me to say that I will not pay for a Hip show again

This was my 24th Hip show so I feel that I can be this critical

Van Halen was OK, better than the Hip, Roth's pipes sounded decent, but he walked around like he had 3 pickles shoved up his ass. DLR is you can't walk in Patent leather pants then don't wear them!.
I thought it was funny that Eddie Van Halen was set up in the centre of the stage right in from on Alex's drum Kit. CLearly he is running this whole show. Micheal Anthony was missed. Wolfgang is just a fatter version of Valerie Bertinelli

Had a great time because of the people I was with, but it really didn't have anything to do with the shows I watched. Great on Jim Bassilie for doing this for his employee's.

I thought about this post for awhile now...while I can't comment on the fact that VH should pack it in what I do question is your thought that you think TTH should pack it in.

I just can't understand anyone who can consider them a TTH fan and not absolutely dig the cd called World Container. Did you even buy that cd?

I've been around a bit and I can't even remember TTH playing Lee's...are you sure that was 3-4years ago?

I question the fact the you were "bored", while keeping in mind the fact that you haven't seen the TTH since Lee's and maybe you decided to not become a fan anymore BEFORE this RIM gig. Your RIM show was free and that somehow might have clouded your judgement...perhaps if you saw another WC show I might have a little more belief in what you write but to miss that CD and tour I really think you jumped off BEFORE this show...perhaps you went into the show with the mindset that you had already given up on them...hence the negative review

Perhaps you needed to see the band play one of those recent Phoenix shows for the opening of the WC tour. Perhaps you missed Fort York and the reemergence of 38Yrs Old...perhaps you missed Fiddlers Green or
Vaccination Scar or or or

I suppose in the end I don't take much stock in a review of a supposed fan who only saw 1 show on this tour and didn't even pay for their ticket! There was lots of opportunity to see the band play since your Lee's gig(whenever that was!)

The Hip played Lee's on February 20, 2002 for a Special Olympics fundraiser.

And I think that ashtrayrock may be correct that Phantom51 gave up on The Hip before the show...

The Lee's show may have been longer ago now that I think of it. It was february and I stood in the rain all day waiting to get into the place, it was a miserable afternoon that is for sure. I'm sure someone here can confirm when it was.

May be saying they should pack it is was a bit harsh.

I still found Gords performance boring and delibrate. He used to be so spontanious (sp). Now it seems he is working just to come up with new stuff to try and wow the crowds.

I thought WC was the best hip album in a long time, and no I did not see any of the tour or the or the Fort York shows ( can't stand the idiot fans at some of these shows anymore)

I don't know if my mind was made up, I went in with an open mind and was excited to see the guys play. They worked hard as always. I just find there is something missing now. Like I said I am older and my taste in music has changed a bit.
I would just like to see Gord sing instead of shout. He isn't a bad singer when he puts his mind to it

Thanks for admitting that harsh statement that you made might have been wrong...because I had a pretty hard time with you saying that...especially cause I firmly beleive that TTH are at a peak right now...best since 1996, imho.

Perhaps the reason why Gord might have seemed "off" to you was the fact that they have been on a year+ long world tour and also the fact that it was a corporate gig...which means 85% of the people there didn't even have a vested interest in seeing the band play. I can only imagine the reasons why TTH took on that gig to begin with...my guess is that they were offered a bucket full of cash while also taking a request to play from someone who truely loves the band.

Staying away from this tour, for a cd that you call "their best cd in a long time" was a mistake...to blame the fact that you don't like the shows because of some fan's behaviors is lame. I will be the first to admit that there are some Hip fans that drive me crazy but for me to ever think that
those few people would make me not want to go to their shows anymore would be insane.

Gord is a great singer, no doubt about that. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that there is "something missing now" and what is missing is your passion for their music and the will to see it unfold live.

You yourself said that you are older and that your taste in music has changed...please don't blame the band for that.

They just simply didn't deserve the kind of review you wrote.

These great new songs are the very reason for you to now jump back on board...but my guess is that if that is the only show(RIM) you saw on the WC tour that you and the band are done with...time to move on, eh

Even if 85% didn't have a vested interest in seeing them, that is probably the same ratio that comes out to see them in the states. (Again I'm not knocking the effort that was put in) They should be trying to impress new people that come to see them (again I'm not saying they didn't). Gord just wasn't as good live as he has been in the past, was it just a one off, personally I don't think so. but hopefully it was.
Would I pay to see the Hip again, sure I would if the venue was right and the location was right

I've bought every album they have ever put out on the day it was released, they are all good albums overall. I'm not knocking the music they put out.

OK! they had a bad night for another reason, which I don't know...think about it, EVERYONE has an off night/day. As someone who saw them 4-5 times in the last year I can say they are still delivering the goods, as a live band. If I was to guess why it seemed like an off night I'd have to say that perhaps it was probably a gig that their hearts just weren't in the right place for...playing for a bunch of people who didn't buy tickets(nonfans)

Unlike all the people in the USA&Canada who BUY tickets and therefore have a vested interest in the show. Trust me they don't have to try to win over any new fans in Canada, especially at a free RIM concert! lol

Your free ticket wasn't worth anything...VH with DLR is worth even less(imho). I wasn't at the show so I can't comment directly but I can comment about a show that the band did 13 days earlier, in Rochester.

Trouble at the Henhouse is their best work ever, imho. WC comes next. WC is right up there with the very best this band has ever done. Period.

For a fan to miss this year's tour(and the last 5yrs worth of shows!) and to only catch an abbreviated set, at a show that wasn't even a real show, your review doesn't stand up. It has no weight. Sorry.

I'm as old as you are and go back as long as you do and have seen as many(or more) shows than you...but we differ in the fact that I've decided to still invest in the live shows and for that I can say, with authority, that they have been worth the money.

Rochester Nov 2007 ticket cost me $30 face. Think about it.

That is all your opinion, I'm Glad you have strong opinions on things. I disagree with most of yours but that's fine.

I don't think henhouse is their best album and I know WC isn't the second best IMHO.

When was your first show may I ask??

Just wanted to say that I really have enjoyed WC, however, the Hip were built on Road Apples and Up to Here. Everyone keeps asking whether they will produce again with Rock, but, my biggest wish is for them to re-unite with Don Smith. Sometimes I wonder what they would have sounded like if Smith had of stayed the course in prodcuing them. Robbies guitar had such a clean fender sound for lack of better expression during those times. I think he has lost that in his live performance.

I suppose its ok for you to not recognize the sheer greatness of Henhouse or WC but to be off the bus for 5+ years and then all of a sudden come in spewing nonsense about how the TTH/RIM show sucked and how the good old days were way better, is lame. lol So, the RIM show sucked, eh! You didn't get a full set either! LOL You don't go to shows anymore cause some fans behavior bugs you...lol wudeva!

I'm trying to pin down my first show and this is all I can tell you...it was at Seneca college(UofT) west...Gord had long hair...I don't think I got a ticket stub that night as we paid at the door...I wish I could find the date of that show...anyways I saw them tons in the old days...even made a couple of shows when the spinning stage was still happening @ Ont Place.

In the end I don't take much stock in what you say cause you have clearly given up on the band. Why even hang around here?? Me, on the other hand, am still waaay on board.
