Fiddler's Green

hiphiphip50 Wrote:I know this is a fiddlers green thread, but i was just thinking, I love IVL and just checked to see how many times "Leave" has been played and its onl 4 times, is it just me or does everyone not like that song?, i think its one of the best off ivl and would love to see it live
I think the boys couldn't find a live version that they liked, so it wasn't played live that much. I think I remember reading in an interview before IVL came out, someone in the band said that they thought "Leave" would be the hardest song to tackle live.

I was there for the camp fire version and I don't think Paul is talking about that. That was Rob solo, and I don't think he actually finished it.

I bet Paul is talking about a rehersal or something.

Fantastic! Un-Freakin'-believable! It's amazing that they played this and I am happy for all those who were there. I have had my share of Hip moments over the years and though i'm sad that I wasn't at this one I know that I have 3 shows to look forward to (and I'm sure more memories to boot - Emperor Penguin here I come! - as long as it's not on Friday though - *hint* MAv).

On a related Fiddler's Green note I was at the video shoot for the
MM@W video (which happened to be on Mother's Day) and Bobby and Gord and Paul were waiting for the directions to be given to Gord D for a particular shot and they started riffing around with the Fiddler's Green intro. They only played about 30 seconds worth but it was pretty cool.

just found this thread after enjoying FG for decades...

Did Gord comment about the song from the stage?

I mean this was a major moment in Hip history!

Did you see the YouTube footage, didn't seem to say very much as far as I could see, just intro'ed it....

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

The shows on the weekend were amazing.....really the best hip shows I've seen. That was the highlight for me....that and thugs, and Flamenco. Other than that, all, or most of the new songs were the best parts of the shows.

I think I just had an emotional breakdown....

I really can't wrap my brain around how that must have felt to have heard live.

I just watched the video from YouTube and I am surprised that there wasn't more of a reaction when Gord introduced the song. Granted, I probably would have been too shocked to say or do anything.

I came this close to tears. There was a good reaction at the front (much of it from the people I'd told I thought I'd heard it during soundcheck and followed up with "but they'll never play that ever"), but I suppose it was probably lost on the rest of the crowd. Frankly I just wish people would have stopped screaming in the middle of the song! Then again, that could be said for basically every song. Hmph.

At first when Gord intorduced it I laughed and said "Fiddlers Green - Ya right" then when it started I just stood there in shocked silence and amazement until the end of the song.

I was in complete shock. It happened so fast that it took me by complete surprise. I then started to second guess myself thinking, ok, I'm 100% positive that this has never been played before, but am I actually correct in that? Am I really witnessing this moment? When it finally sunk in, that's when the emotion of the whole experience hit me. I have been brought to tears at many Hip shows, in fact most of them at one point or another. But this time was different. For most of the song, I just put my head down, closed my eyes and took it in. I never do that at Hip shows as I like to see all that is happening. It was surreal to say the least and even though that wasn't the best concert I have wittnessed to date, it actually was. When I was driving home afterwards, I just kept saying to myself out loud, they fucking played Fiddlers!

I tried to convey to my pal that I was with the significance of the moment for me and most hardcore Hip fans, but I knew he didn't get it. He's a mild fan and didn't really think much of the song...to him it was just another song.

Hey are there any threads about songs that probably don't get played often in here yet? I thought I saw one but I'm not sure.
