Reverse (Perverse?) Complilation Thread
#61

murmlicious Wrote:I'm so new to the Hip my opinion might not be valid... I've barely heard the half of their work! ( albeit trying to remedy that situation)

On the other hand, maybe it is because i haven't had time to feel get sick of anything because it's 'overplayed'
but anyway... from the mouths of babes ( so to speak )...

Courage ( album version, damnit, I need to see them live! )
My Music at Work - I find it irritating
At the Hundredth Meridian - see previous comment
Fifty Mission Cap ( god I feel like I'm commiting harracy, but its just too.... cheesie... maybe the drums? )
Vaccination Scar... well, I like chord progressions and idea, but not the performing of it on the album... so I dunno
-Katie

There are a lot of songs I didn't like till I saw bootleg performings and then I got it...
but yes... please don't kill me, I know some of these are signature tunes

Courage live is definitely a notch or two better than the album version. As many have stated already, Fully Completely's production values leave a lot to be desired.

M@W and Meridian NEED TO BE HEARD LIVE!!! IMO they are two of the best live tunes, especially the recent M@W performances with Gord doing Elvis, Dylan, and metal voice at the end of the song. Meridian is what a live rock song should sound like. It's breathtaking.

Well, I get to say that there's Tragically Hip songs I don't like, because i'm American, and I obviously don't appreciate the Hip at the level you guys do.

First of all, I have to agree with all the "Courage" comments. I had LBU long before Fully Completely, so the not-live version was kinda a let down. (Although I dunno why no one likes We'll Go Too, that song's awesome, love the solo)

But here's a few I could just never... get into, I guess:

1) Throwing off Glass - Cool lyrics, but terrifyingly aimless.

2) Toronto #4 - only bothered to listen to once.

And to be perfectly honest, the album version of NOIS never really did it for me, either. Maybe it was again the superior LBU version, but when that plinky lead guitar started in I couldn't believe this was the song everyone prooffered as their favorite.

Other than that, though, 98% of the Hip is solid gold. That's a way higher percentage than any other band I know of.

This is a painful thread to get through, even more painful to post in. There is only one song I consciously skip on any Hip CD... I'll Be Leaving You...

It comes off too hickish to me... with the summer upon us, the car CD player will once again be blasting Hip (STP and PJ on my off days) through downtown Ottawa on my way to work every morning, but not even the homeless off Rideau at The Mission get kicks out of that track...
The Hip are a 'mood' band for me... some days I'll want to skip half of TATH or IVL, but other days I'll sickly crave it... I think many of the poster's here are the same way...
They have a fairly varied catalogue of music, and much like a fine Cuban cigar and a Bubble Tea, there is a time and place for everything...

Current Mood: Drunk
Current Track: (Hiccups)-Daredevil... High Sierra '95...

It's funny there will be songs I dislike when I get an album and then listen to a few times and end up loving. I really disliked If New Orleans is Beat when I first got IBE and now it is one of my favourite songs on the album. The version they did at the Canada Day show last year at the amphitheatre was incredible. I remember when they played it at the time the crowd was dissapointed because most people thought that they were gonna play New Orleans is Sinking. When I heard it live that day I didn't think it was that great but when I listen to the livedownloads copy of that show it sound awesome.

LOL, I got in my first (and only) car accident while listening to Vaccination Scar. Now I skip over it whenever i'm driving.
