Highway girl:
The "No Canadian musician ..." line is from the '93 Kumbaya festival (AIDS benefit), which aired on Muchmusic. I'm not sure of the exact date, though it was sometime in the summer. I'm sure someone here could be more specific.

Cheers,
John

I liked Ottawa Bluesfest this yer when he stepped onstage, immediately into a pile of gum that got stuck on his shoe. As he ranted about "what self respecting bluesman leaves gum onstage, come on!", he removed his shoe and tried to scrape the gum off.

Lots of good lines here; many favorites.

Some others worth mentioning (paraphrasing a bit, so forgive me if I'm off a bit).

"You're a very strange and beautiful crowd, like Uma Thurman"

"Whoever threw this bottle, we don't want you as a fan anymore. That's right, you can leave, you're free to go. We hate your guts, we don't believe in anything you believe in."

"I remember when I drank my first mickey or rye. I wanted to throw the bottle when I was done too"

"Its an egg, I laid it for you"

"Me love you. What's that? What are you trying to say boy? Me love you".

"I'm Bob Dole. I'm Bob Dole. Did you know that referring to yourself in the 3rd person is the first sign of dementia"

"This song is supposed to remind you about a giant penis" (Coconut cream)

"Pearl Jam is the Pearl Jam of Canada"

"Red Baron, beer of champions. Apparently after you drink this you can shit through a needle"

"We're from Kingston, where good bands go to have bad gigs", Ottawa '97

And I was getting a CD signed from Gordie and he asked how to spell my name. My buddy (same first name, no relation) behind me pipes up and says "If you remember how to spell his name, you'll be able to spell mine."
Gord's response "What! Did you guys have the same mother? The mother of no imagination!"

Last year at edgefest:

He is talking about the boots on he burnt on stage and how they were his brothers.. "So this place has some not so great memories" or something to that effect...

Last T.O. show, "This is a song for the Girls" before jumping into ABAC

From The SF Fillmore show this past October:

During Grace~ "You've got the wrong man, in the wrong war! But I didn't come here to talk talk politics, I came here to kill some Gooks! But we don't call 'em that anymore!"

During Meridian rant (he had a cold that night)~ "I hate you San Francisco, I hate you for things you can't control. I hate you for your weather. I hate you San Francisco. San Louis Obispo."

Courage~ "Who needs courage when you've got me?"

Gordie's ear monitor kept falling out. He was already is a foul mood, and this was pushing him too far. Finally he rips it out. Then his mike cord wraps on the stad, so he rips it off & kicks the stand to the ground, immediately turning to mime a gun at Paul's head. He then side kicks his monitor, turns toward the side of the stage and yells, "Fucking Fix It!"

_______________________

The first time I saw them, at the Fillmore, on the Henhouse tour, he walks out on stage and begins wiping his eyes, muttering, "Stop, please stop. You're going to make me cry. You're so beautiful."

FAV: "I just want to get into the same strip clubs as Brian Mulrooney" (Ottawa Civic Centre, 1994) (this was the same concert Gordie said "I'm just like anybody else, I just like to come home after a hard day's work and go up to my room and put a belt around my neck and masturbate till I get dizzy."
Other:
-I have to report… a dorsal fin! SWIM GIRL!!! SWIM!!!!!
-Cast me! Cast me! (end of Blow)
-These women can swim! SWIM!
-That was you! It wasn’t him! He’s not a man! He’s a microphone stand!
-100th Meridian! It’s a big line of evil, you just got to step over it
-I was all greased up for you! I’ll paddle lake Erie for you!
-Courage! Here boy! (Corel Centre 1997 end of Courage)
-COURAGE!? I thought you’d never show!
-I want to paddle your baby-blue canoe
-It’s nice to be back in ROME
-100th Meridian! it's just a big black line of longitude, i'll walk you through it
-At the hundredth meridian We can reach it in a day
-At The Hundredth Meridian;Where The Real Humour Begins
-"Why did I say dorsal fin? Now she's not going to be thinking about where she has to swim to but on all the trouble's she in."

Thank you! I loved this - it might seem strange in retrospect, but at the time, so close to the election, it was really something - and for a long time it seemed like no one I talked to who had been at the show heard that. I started thinking I was having Liberal fantasies (again)...

I love this thread. These are the reason I listen to boots.

Some more came to my mind that I missed in my last post, real gems. Again, going from memory so I might be off...

"Jimmy Hoffa thought Robert Kennedy was a queer. Brian Mulroney thinks that Pierre Trudeau is ruining is legacy. Vengence is a waste of time when wreaked on those who, if left to it, would wreak themselves"

"I woke up in front of a tank in Tiannemen square and I swore I'd never touch the stuff again."

"Any fish you wish, any fish you wish. If this ain't heaven I wish I knew where it was" - I love that one.

"I rub and chafe when I should cleanly grasp and pull"

"I might just have a problem that you'd understand. Dan, Dan my man, you're fingers start to wiggle, and landscapes emerge."

"Rub you plants leaves and every day and they'll think you're wind."

"There's water dripping from the ceiling and I catch it on my tongue. It tastes like pee-pee. Oh God, it is pee-pee. I'm drinking pee-pee"

"I sold this skinhead some pot" Somebody in the crowd yells "That's not true" GD says "I only tell you this because its true. And he came back a week later to buy some more pot and his hair was just a little bit shaggier".

"She says Honey, the ferry takes way too long, let's drive across the ice."

"Once I get on deck, once I get on deck, no more! No more finding corpses! I'll play the real corpses, every day of the week!"

"I don't want to know about evil, I just want to know about love"

My ULTIMATE favorite (can't believe I forgot this one) from the High Sierra NOIS.

"You're in the forest and its nightime and you see something. Its big and its moving fast, and you realize either its out of place or you're out of place. And then you realize its a grizzly bear, and in the seconds before he rips you apart you get a sense of awareness! Woo! The fear, its all good! Get up, get up you weakling get up!" That's a great one to scream along to when you've had a crappy day.
