The Buffalo News today had an article about the upcoming concert season at Artpark.
And The Tragically Hip show was specifically mentioned. They stated that unlike years past - this year at Artpark there will be NO tailgating allowed in the parking lot prior to The Hip shows.
Kinda bullshit - tailgating in a New York state of mind.

Yes I tailgated like everybody else, which makes it extremely fun, and they actually have real bathrooms, not port-a-potties, outside in the parking lot but the lines were long, so bring a beer with you in line.i was there last year, drunken mess? thats putting it lightlly. ithink the 70 year old grandmothers working the doors were abit overwelmed.the only show i ever saw even close to this was at pine knob.
And inside as well too. Last year I didn't use the girls' room once (meaning was ushered in the guys' room by a guy, with a handful of other girls doing the same thing) bc the girls' line was so frickin' long. But then I heard girls were getting kicked out bc they were using the guys' room! (almost got kicked out at Darien Lake's VIP area for that too, and same prob at Stratford's show -- even in the VIP section!)
The whole night was a drunken sloppy sweaty mess, and the guy sitting in front of me was pissing in an empty beer bottle during the first song. Gross! Sorry to say but I got him kicked out.
So, all that said, I'm assuming Artpark, which used to be a really nice family venue which has turned into a ghettoish place, is trying to prevent that from happening again, which might help a little, but I would recommend tailgating in the former Jubilee parking lot (think there's a CVS or other drug store in there now), and either stay parked there and it's a nice walk up the hill and through some fields to the theater, and you might even have an easier time getting out of there, or even hanging out longer without Artpark security kicking you out. Just a suggestion (or just tailgate there and then head over to the Artpark parking lot when it opens at 7. I might do that.)
OK, see you all then!
PS. On hotel/motels. There's a motel across the street from the Water Street Landing bar/restaurant, just a five-min walk to theater. Don't know the name of it, but you could call that restaurant and ask. www.waterstreetlanding.com
VinWin Wrote:No tailgating sucks, but a lot of the people around Artpark claimed that during concerts, not just The Hip, people were destroying there property/landscaping because of a lack of port-a-potties. The village of Lewiston put an end to the tailgating, but like everyone here on the boards has already said they will just go to other places in the village which I guess is good for local business. But it should be fun when a few hundred people try to show up early to tailgate and end up in Tops parking lot because there is no where else to go. At least they have a cooler full of beer inside to restock when everyone runs out!I already told my Mom(who lives within walking distance) that we were tailgating at her house. And probably a few drunken guys would be sleeping on the floor of her living room before we get up and do it again the next day

brian1175 Wrote:Honestly, I don't think tailgaiting outside of artpark is a good idea. It's a little town and Im sure the local police will tell you to pack up or worse yet charge you with something stupid.
There are bars lined up center street, I think that would be the best bet.
If someone can confirm that there will be no tailgaiting, maybe we could pick a bar for the pre game warm up.
