2006 WJHC Thread-Go Canada!!

I doubt he'll get anything else...he's considered a "star" player, and as we all know, they're held to an entirely different set of standards...Further evidence? He was still named US player of the game regardless...nice message to send the kids there...

As for the revenge factor, if the two teams meet again, it will be in the final, so I doubt very much Sutter will let the team take liberties like that (unless, of course the score gets out of hand)...More likely, Downie will go after him at his first NHL opportunity (when his Flyers face Johnson's Hurricanes)...

All that aside, talk about a huge win/tie last night...Canada now gets to sit back and wait for the winner of the Sweden/Finland Quarterfinal, while the US has to beat both the Czechs and Russians just to get to the final...I'll take option 'A' anyday... :thumb:

Nice to hear the "Pog-ge, Pog-ge, Pog-ge" chants as well...probably the biggest cheer a Leaf has received in Vancouver since the days of Tiger Williams...

I agree, he probably won't get suspended. To me what Johnson did was no different than what McSorley or Bertuzzi did and they both got huge suspensions. If he doesn't get kicked out of the tournament it will be a joke.

thats terrible, that was one of tyhe dirtiest plays I've ever seen, but as MikeS said he gets the star treatment because he was the third overall pick last year.

I think he got off easy because he didn't really get all of him with the elbow or so it seemed on tv, and the fact the refs didn't give him the match penalty (that I think he deserved) is what saved him. I don't totally buy the "star treatment" argument, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a factor. But I think had he got all of Downie with that elbow and really injured him bad he definitely would of gotten worse punishment, some things you just can't hide from or cover up. I'm sure someone down the line will get revenge on him in some way. But hey we won the game we made it to the semi's let's move on and get back to hockey.

Woot! Canada's in the gold-medal game!

http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/news_story/?...1&hubname=

Sure we don't have the firepower that last year's team had, but Canada has an extremely solid defence and strong goaltending in Pogge, and I think that gives us a shot at gold again!

Right now as I type this it's 3-1 Russia in the 3rd, so it looks like another Canada-Russian final. The US team has great talent, but they never looked like a team. They will look back at that 2-2 game with the Swiss as the real reason they won't win gold, and it will give them nightmares for some time.

By the way, what does everyone think about all the booing of the Americans and cheering for the teams playing them? Heck tonight the crowd is cheering for Russia over the US... I never thought I'd see the day that happened! I can understand them booing Jack Johnson for the cheap shot he took on Downie, but otherwise I'm torn on whether it's just "good clean fun" or a sign of poor sportsmanship and disrespect by the Vancouver fans. What's your take on this?

So much for the States being the favorites, 4th place again.

Here's to Canada, lets get that Gold, 2 years in a row would be sweet!
I think we can take Russia, if Pogge is up to the task we should win, but it will be tough, Malkin is a great player, just like with Ovechkin last time around, we need to shut him down and take him off his game.

GO CANADA!!!!

Wooot!! 2-0 after one period, looking great so far. Love the big hits and our forecheck is great, Malkin is useless in his own zone. Keep it going boys!!!

Malkin isn't useless. He made a mistake on the Downie goal but the goalie should have stopped it anyway. I love how Canada can get away with hitting Malkin after every whistle. Confusedcratch:

Malkin -3 = me and my line are not playing good defence. Enough said, why do you care what I think about it anyway. Next you'll be complaining that the players are celebrating too much, just like you did last year. Conversation over, Im going to watch the rest of the game and celebrate with the rest of the country you can go on whining and complaing if you want or join the fun.

You remember last year. Cool. Big Grin I'll still take Malkin over any other player on the ice. I don't think Gretzky or Lemiuex played any defense either and they couldn't score either if THE ENTIRE OPPOSING TEAM HIT THEM AND SHADOWED THEM ALL GAME.

Anyway, congrats to Canada's juniors. :thumb:

Last year is water under the bridge as far as Im concerned. Anyway.. I think Malkin is the best young player out there as well. But Canada is doing exactely what it needs to do to win, and taking Malkin off his game and shutting him down is working to a tee, hence the -3 and no points. Im sure we can agree that Canada is playing great. :thumb:

GO CANADA!!
