If that isn't civility and grace, I don't know what is. You can't blame the Democratic Party or it's candidate for the travesty created in Florida by the Supreme Court's absolute failure to properly interpret the law and and the undeniable tampering perpetrated by Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris.

erm, I hate to point this out, but Gore wasnt exactly being graceful when he contested the Florida election in 2000 when he wanted a recount on only 4 Democratic leaning counties...he wanted to win, he wanted to change the rules where it suited him in those 4 counties and the Supremes shut him down. Right now, Bush has a 140,000 vote lead in Ohio and I'm sorry to say the Dems are engaged in desperation tactics(what else would you call it when the Ohio Sec. of State says there are 170,000 provisional and absentee ballots and the Dems are claiming there are 250,000??). In my opinion, the Dems are following William Tweed's maxim to the full extent...continue the counting until we win, with or without ballots.

Gore actually won FLA, its a fact. So to contest the fact that he lost made a lot of sense. The story ran in the Sept 12, 2001 NY Times, of course, no one cared at the point (and rightfully so).

I do agree it was foolish of the 04 dems to contest it though.

Overall I am dissapointed , frustrated, but not really surprised in the outcome. Its just too bad that the US election has such a big stake on the whole world.

Yes, analysts concluded if the statewide recount had been done, as Democrats wanted but the Republicans in Florida managed to prevent, Gore would have won by AT LEAST several thousand votes, not 537 in favour of Bush.

Skippy, I can just picture Bush trying to tie a noose...calling up Cheney and asking "Does the rabbit come up out of the hole or go back down into it after he runs around the tree?" :lol:

I imagine once the frustration wears off, there will be an eternal sadness that pervades. Bush will never be forced to answer for anything ever again, having a massive majority in the Senate and House. I hate to wish harm to Americans, because many of my friends are Americans, but I hope the 51% who voted for him have to pay for it...in this life or in the next.

I am happier than ever with Canada's electoral system. The 54 million Americans who voted for Kerry wasted their vote. It counts for nothing. 1 person could have voted for Kerry and 100 million could have voted for Bush and it wouldn't have made a difference. In our system those 54 million votes - for the parties, not the people - would have been well represented in Parliament.

As much as I am frustrated with all of this bullshit, I still wouldn't move because I love my family and friends too much to leave them behind, otherwise, I would. Stupid government and system that we have here :roll: cratch:

Really a better vote in Canada? Hmm ok, lets look back at the last few elections. When chretien was in power were the votes of the PC party really heard from Ontario?

At least in the states you can vote for senators and House of Rep members. You really need to go back and look at some canadian elections before making a comment like that and just dismissing the American system.
