I thought Owen Nolan paid off? I woulda said Glen Wesley, Doug "Welcome Back! So Long!" Gilmour, etc. It's true that the Leafs get it right every once in a while - Leetch, Nieuwendyk - but on the whole I'd rather cheer for a team of young guys playing with their heart instead of old guys playing with what's left of their brains.

Nolan certainly has not paid off. He was brought in to provide toughness in the playoffs for when the Leafs play the Flyers, but last year he had a bad hip and was useless, and this past playoff season he had torn knee ligaments and didn't play one second.

I like what Leetch brought to the table so I won't whine about that move, but the Nieuwendyk move was exactly what I expected - great for when he's healthy, but unfortunately, he's not healthy enough.

Well, that's an interesting perspectives from Leafs fans. I was in the dark about these things. To listen to the media talk, and especially other Leafs fans, I had thought that Nolan and Leetch were both great additions. Obviously the team didn't do well as a whole in the playoffs, but I didn't realize these guys weren't among the highlights of the team. Obviously I am not a Leafs fan, so I don't pay much attention to their affairs. Most of my knowledge of that team comes through talking with their fans. I was pretty sure Nolan was an integral part of the regular season winning streak that nearly landed the team on top of the East. The team stumbled as a whole in the playoffs, but I thought that these players were a major asset during the regular season.
