Habs Beat Bruins Again

emperor penguin Wrote:Also, and this goes against both teams, if you're gonna call a dive why call a coincidental penalty.. if the guy was diving obviously the other guy didn't commit a real offense.
tigerthelion Wrote:I agree about the idea about dives. If you call a diving penalty, you shouldn't put the other guy in the box for a trip, hook, ....whatever.
I know what you guys are saying, and I agree for the most part.. however, sometimes there is indeed a hook, trip, etc. and the 'victim' then proceeds to embellish it..

skippy the wonder dog Wrote:BUT ... have no fear, next game HNIC will be blabbering on about how the Bruins found their offence and exploded for five goals, yadda, yadda, yadda ...

As predicted, CBC today declares:
"The Boston Bruins turned in a gutsy offensive performance to stay alive in the series in Game 5, using their offence to explode for a 5-1 win."

The facts are not quite as reported, of course. In Game 5, the Bruins had 24 shots, vs the Habs 32; they had 39 shots in Game 2, 31 shots in Game 3, and 27 shots in Game 4. Only in their miserable game 1 outing (18 shots) did they post fewer shots than during their "gutsy offensive performance" of game 5.

However, Price's save percentage in the 3rd period of Game 5 was 0.600.

Perhaps CBC is covering a different series entirely.

Because the CBC hates French-Canadians, and anything related to French Canada. There. I said it, and I mean it.

WT_ !! (put in your own letter depending on which side of this you are on). This was one of the best games so far this playoff year! WOW! I am cheering for the Habs, but...this was a fun game to watch!
Loved the Nashville/Detroit game too; again, wanted a different outcome...

i wouldn`t say a laughing stock, but 10 goals against in the last 2 games ain`t good my friend...what if they were playing the pens? Tongue i kid....my comments were more geared towards announcers who feel the need to tell us how calm this guy is every time he makes a save

5 goals is a lot of goals in today's NHL. It was a gutsy performance by Bruins to stay alive.

Yeah, the CBC never covers or praises the Canadiens. Give me a break. Confusedcratch:

I"m not saying hie's a laughing stock at all. I'm just sayint that Bob Cole is SO biased towards the Habs in this series it's sick. Price has been playin very well. but he's not the god that Cole makes him out to be.

He's no laughing stock but he was basically annointed as GOD. That's two consecutive games for Price giving up at least four goals. Not very "Roy-like", one might say. These games SHOULD be expected from Price since he is a rookie but I've seen a lot of the media and a lot of Habs' fans claim that Price was a superstar already. Just a case of putting Price on a pedastal too early, that's all. He's still played well for a rookie. He hasn't lived up to his lofty expectations, though.

5 goals isn't a performance, it's an outcome. You don't control how many goals you score. You control how many chances you get.

The Bruins didn't perform well in Game 5; Price performed miserably and gave up 4 goals on 10 shots in the final 20 minutes, none of which was a dangerous scoring chance.

The Bruins did play well offensively in Game 6. Price was much better in that game but the Habs gave the Bruins a series of high-quality chances. No NHL goaltender is going to post impressive stats when he's hung out to dry by his defence.

Those who are saying that the number of goals scored in a given period of time reflects anything of Price's play or abilities are playing the same half-bright numbers game that all the pundits were playing when they predicted the Habs would miss the playoffs again. Unless you look at the circumstances surrounding the numbers, you're just jerking off.

You can actually control how many goals you score. Do you play hockey? Well placed shots can render a goalie defenseless pretty easily. Most of the "great saves" made by goalies are actually just bad shots by a player.

You Habs fans use stats to show how awesome Price is, though. If you want me to be honest, I think Price had a lot of easy games for the Habs coming down the stretch. If you want me to be honest, I think the Bruins have been hanging Thomas out to dry more than Price has been held out to dry. So, in that respect, I don't rate Price as being better than Thomas at all.

So, Price giving up a high number of goals has no bearing on his ability or performance? Oh, that's cute. So, when Dan Cloutier was letting in goals left and right for the Canucks, I guess that was just his defense hanging him out to dry. :?

Brodeur and Lundqvist were hung out to dry all season but still somehow managed to put up impressive numbers and help their teams immensely. Sounds like you are making every excuse in the book for Price to me. :what
