I can't believe what I just saw!!!!!!

Gordie looked bored out of his skull (and Johnny too, until the end). Maybe that's the real reason they'd never played it live!

Awesome job getting the video recorded and put up on youtube. Is is just me or did the song sound horrible? Maybe that's why it isn't played live.

I think FG could work really well as a first song of the encore type tune. I think just Rob, Gord D and Paul could come out and do the first couple verses and be joined by Sinclair and Fay for the outro jam. Also, this would allow for Baker's guitar to be tuned and capo'ed properly (maybe even dual acoustics?).

I thought the song sounded fine. One small chord issue at the start and one of the guitars was a bit out of tune but I thought the song packed a serious wallop! Oh and Damn, did Downie sing the shit out of it!!!

I'm actually surprised that this just showed up in the middle of a show. I would have thought that it would have showed up in an encore rather than just a concert. I say 'I would have thought' because, I didn't even think it would ever be played.

holy crap.

I agree though that Gord didn't look quite sure what to do with himself up there, and I'd be surprised if we see them do it again live for a looooong time. I'm sure if they do add it to their sets, Gord's gonna have to pick up a guitar for it. He looked like he was ready to leave the stage in the middle of the song.

Still. Holy crap.

Man-Sized Eldorado Wrote:According to the Hipbase archive, it has only been played 46 times and was last played at the Paradiso in 2002.

No offense intended to the database and / or its admins whatsoever, but I think it's safe to say that the data from the Road Apples and Fully Completely era are very, very far from complete. Because of this we'll never know a precise number, but I would bet the farm that Verge has been played at least twice that many times, if not more.

I don't think Gord looked bored. Heck, it's a sad tune. Do you want him to go all Poets or Meridian on it?

And with Fiddler's being played, the question is what is next? As I Wind Down the Pines??

it'd be cool to hear them do Into The Night, even though it's not a hip song...

Nobody I was with, nor any of the people around me had any clue...I really think it is only amongst this crowd that it is really such a big deal.

To me, Gord doesn't look bored... he looks sad... look at hos shoulders./ He's remembering why he wrote the song!

I love it, it's beautiful... I hope I can here it live myself one day!

Rather than bored, I feel we have been seeing a more open, more vulnerable (in a good way) Gord being revealed. Seeing the video, I don't know if I have ever seen him be so reservedd and out of his usual (!) stage character while up there. Definitely a lot of emotion being shown and if I am not mistaken it seemed that his voice quavered with emotion a little at times (or maybe it was my connection !).
The interview I saw on CBC a week or so back was very intersting in how much he opened up.
I believe he alluded to Bob Rock challenging him to be more open and direct with his lyrics and tackle subjects he has avoided (was that his words - don't want to misqoute !) in the past like luv (sic). Maybe playing fiddler green was another step in that process.

Can't wait for the Montreal shows and Gord, if you want to break out fiddlers green (or other rarities) in Montreal, that would be fantastic ! Big Grin

just my 2 cents.

thanks, Dwight
