Katrina sinks NOIS

Ok, so it was 4 years rather than 6, big deal. You're the tool that started all this nonsense by claiming it would be "a shame" if The Hip toured in support of the boxed set. Face it, that's a pretty damn idiotic thing to say. Who's to say they can't tour in support of the greatest hits, release an album in 06, and go on tour again??? You honestly think that wouldn't go over well?? You're dead wrong. You say you'd rather see them support new material....I for one would rather see them tour in support of both.

YOu can dream all you want, but it won't happen. Its not an idiodic thing to say. I can say anything I like about this band. They have been my favorite band for the better part of 20 years which I can promise you is a lot longer than 90% of the people on this site. Ive supported everything they have ever done, so I have earned the right to say what I feel like saying, So I may not say things that are Hipolitically Correct on this site, I don't give a crap, I will say what I want. If I think the band does something that is crap then I will say it, If I think they are getting tired I will say it, if they release the best work of there life I will say that of course.
Any way this thread was supposed to be about a much bigger and more important topic, I certainly didn't mean to Hijack it with my comments you guys get offended so easy. It is just a band, it is just music. It is nothing nearly as important or dire as what the people in the south are going through now.

funny how these threads get side tracked. NMAS, 4 years 6 years, whatever...my point is that a tour without a new record might be exactly what this band needs. I too have been a fan for 20 years and think that the last 2 or 3 records were sub par for this band. A tour where they are not obligated to play new material would be great. probably very inspiring. Older material and a bigger mix from night to night. A new record would be a year out most likely. But with a tour in front of it, new material would be far better then that of the last 2 records. I would much rather see them work ideas out for on the road for as long as it takes than to see them collaborate in the studio and come out with more of the same.

yeah, IBE was a good record. very solid. But, I rarely listen to it. It's not as good as the others. As for being right because I'm a long time fan? read the previous posts and look at the context of the statement before you judge.

IBE was not a great record. period. They've had better records and definitely better tours. The point was this, a tour in front of a record might develop into something really cool. I would not be at all surprised if this was is the bands intent.

Then you say this:

Confusedcratch: Maybe you've been playing with your chubb to much chubb?

Ive been a Hip fan for 13+ years, and I have over 1700 posts so I can say whatever I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man...I still play it almost every day. I like it better than IVL and M@W because the whole record just flows from start to finish...like their older albums!

Wow, I couldn't disagree with you more. I think IBE is one of the best things they've ever done. A raw, warts-and-all slab of pure rock n' roll energy, featuring some powerful vocals from Gordie, as well as some of the best lyrics he's ever penned. He sounds absolutely possessed on that album. As for their live show, the two gigs I caught on the IBE tour were both amazing, especially that magnificent Spokane show. Gord may not be quite as insane as he was in the early days, but they still have one of the best live shows on the planet. They've also become better musicians and better songwriters. They're a lot more refined and dynamic. And I've said this a hundred times on this forum, but I'll say it again. This band is like fine wine. They only get better with age.

Absolutely, all the IBE shows I saw were killer, the livedownloads.com shows can back that up. :thumb:

thats right good solid record, not great. an opinion. you are missing the point. i happen to think that the DFN tour was by far the best. In fact, they toured here in the states shortly before the record came out and those shows were amazing. I happen to think that the latest releases were not on par with DFN, especially in terms of live shows. This band thrives on working material while on tour. Look at the songs that were spawned from jams in the middle of NOIS and 100th Meridian. Some of the best. I personally don't see that from the last record. Yes it was good. Not great.

I guess we'll have to wait and see, there were a few rants from the last tour that might develop into some great songs, like the "give me second place" rant from the end of ahead by a century, or the "drink till you drop" rant that was done after lake fever at the london show last november. I agree with you though that there were no rants i.e. full songs payed in the middle of other songs like there was on the pre DFN and DFN tours, that was incredible, especially the 100 years old, or freaked or thugs or early ahead by a century etc. etc. etc.... rants, that was something special. Anyways IMO the last tour was great and I think IBE is an incredible album. :thumb:

I'm in Chicago and the morning radio show is actually playing a short few seconds of NOIS whenever they go into the latest on the disastrous aftermath. This alternative station NEVER plays The Hip and when I first heard it I got pretty excited. My second thought however, "WHAT THE HELL?"

Who the hell are you, band management? How the hell do you know when the band is gonna tour?? As a matter of fact, someone here emailed the band about possible tour plans for the best of release, and the reply clearly indicated they were working out tour plans for supporting HipEponymous. It stands to reason that if they have a new record out in 06, they'll tour it. Hence, you have no basis whatsoever for saying this.

NMAS Wrote:Its not an idiodic thing to say. I can say anything I like about this band. They have been my favorite band for the better part of 20 years which I can promise you is a lot longer than 90% of the people on this site.

Explain to me how this is in ANY way relevant to the subject. Sounds like pointless empty arrogant bragging to me.

Please, PLEASE point out something someone said that is in any manner contrary to this. Guess what, bonehead - I'm entitled to my viewpoint too, and mine happens to be that yours sucks. Is that an attempt to thwart your sharing of it? If you honestly think so, you're simply not very bright.

Ok Mr. Lifelong Fan, time for a history lesson. In 1992, 1994 and 1996 The Hip released studio albums. In each year, they toured in support of those albums for the remainder of the year, clear across Canada. Mere months later, *with no new material to support*, the band toured Canada again and played in front of some of the biggest crowds of their careers. Yes, I know the ARA era was arguably the peak of their popularity. HOWEVER, it demonstrates that the band can indeed tour without having a new album to support. If you honestly think they can't pull it off, you're insane. They could tour canada this coming November and December and come right back in the summer of '06 and not miss a single beat.

Nevertheless, you have yet to illustrate a single legitimate reason for feeling the way you do. You think it's a shame for them to tour?? At least concede that simply putting that out there with no explanation would NATURALLY rub everyone here as a pretty unorthodox thing to say. Until you can adequately explain yourself, I have no choice but to think you don't make a damn bit of sense.
