A New Hip Club-looking to the future..
#31

I would definitely pay to be a member of a revamped Hip Club - but only assuming that price is reasonable. As Pudge7681 said, in the US - tickets and seating is not necessarily a challenge for the shows we are attending. Heck - I've been to a show here in Columbus where the venue let people in for free because the ticket sales were so low! Anyway... the type of content I would be looking for would be exactly what MAv has been providing - exclusive video and access to the band. By the way, thank you for your willingness to get out there are find the fans on the net, MAv. You're efforts are truly appreciated! The Salmon Fest video is amazing! The jam session in the trailer... the Springtime performance in the hotel - everything is spectacular!

I don't want a Hipbase link on thehip.com. I indeed feel special to be a part of this community and I think people should have to find there way here themselves. I'm sure there are many of us that have been part of this "Hip Community" for a lot longer than even the Hipbase has been around. For me it started back in 96ish with #thehip on mIRC and the Hip newsgroup, then "The Henhouse" (which I really miss), then the Henhouse Yahoo group, and now the Hipbase.

We are a tight knit group with one common bond. Opening the floodgates might take some of that away. If someone wants to be a part of this community, it doesn't take too much effort to find this place.

I'd gladly fork out $50 to join...especially is it gives us access to those sound board recording of shows the guys in the band get...

P.S.- What is $50 canadian now anyway...like six bucks? Just kidding...your dollar has rebounded nicely of late.

[quote="Pudge7681"]Quite honestly I don't think I would pay to be a member of a club unless I got HUGE benefits from belonging to it. Living in the US near the border affords me the opportunity on many occassions to see the boys play in small theatres or clubs where demand for tickets is not massive and shows rarely sell out.

I agree completely! I don't live in the States, but I absolutely LOVE the fact that I can drive down to a place like Seattle or Spokane and buy tickets to a Hip show at the venue box office on the night of the show without any worries. The front-of-the-line ticket access that the Hip Club provides is wonderful for the big arena shows here in Canada, and I've used it often, but you don't really need it for the U.S. gigs. And I like it like that.

Having said that though, I'd still fork over the cash for a Hip Club membership if the benefits were cool enough. I definitely like the idea of a regular newsletter, exclusive web content, and some kind of fan club only single/EP. Pearl Jam (aren't they a magnificent example?) release all of their fan club singles on vinyl with unique packaging, which is incredibly cool in my opinion. At the same time I also understand that these kinds of ventures can get expensive, and PJ probably pulls in a lot more dough than the Hip, so it's easy to see how they can afford to do the whole vinyl thing. But CDs on the other hand are pretty cheap to manufacture these days, and I'd love to see the Hip do some kind of fan club single in the future.

I got one :thumb: .....but it needs a needle Cry

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

My 2cents:

I wouldn't pay to be in the hip club...mostly because I think I should just be invited...But what it comes down to is I can only spend so much cash on tickets shirts albums live downloads posters singles records tab books and papers Wink before im broke....

screw the club, we are the club, and we have Mav, what could be better?

I second that. Now that I think about it, I've spent an obscene amount of money on the Hip over the years, and although I'd probably pay more for an updated Hip Club, I like the fact that the original one was free. I'm glad I signed up when I did. The front-of-the-line ticket access has worked flawlessly for me over the past couple of years, and that's all I really need. As for the Hipbase, you're right on the money. This place *IS* the Hip Club.

why is everyone saying the old Hip Club was free? did you not have to buy IVL to be a member??? I think if you make it a one-time fee to get in (a la buying a cd/dvd, etc..), then that should be enough, not yearly payments....

I think the assumption is that we, Hipbasers, would have bought the album regardless, so in essence the Club was a free bonus.
