'Like a Rolling Stone' Named No. 1 Song
#31

Nah, I think everybody loves NOIS. They're just sick of hearing it. Wouldn't matter if it was unreleased, people get sick of those songs too if they hear them enough.

I roll my eyes and reach for the skip button whenever I hear those opening notes live. I just find it irritating. But when I'm listening to Up To Here, I REALLY dig NOIS. I love it. For some reason I like the "quieter" build of the song on the album. I don't know why, but I can only listen to the album version these days.

So essentially, who cares what they say.

What's your point? NOIS is a tremendous song. The fact that it's overplayed doesn't diminish the fact that it is a truly great song.

I know there are some people in here who would say "Get Back Again" is a better song. Confusedcratch: It reminds me of the lovers of indie music and movies. The ones who will try to convince people that an indie band is great and all successful bands are crap. The same with movies. I'm of the opinion that there is just as much crap in the indie scene as there is on the mainstream. Crap is crap and good is good! Don't hate just because NOIS is probably the band's most popular song. It's popular AND great!

No no, thats not my point. I love NOIS. I think it IS one of the greatest songs of all time. Im just saying that RS would pick that song despite of how good it actually is. They would pick it simply because it superficially 'defines' the Hip, or some such non-sense (most commercially successful).

Youre absolutely right. But I'd argue that they'd pick it because its popular.

Ok, cool. Fair enough. I wasn't implying that you HATED the song or anything. I guess it's just in my nature to defend that song when I hear people say anything remotely questionable about it. I've just heard too many pleas to hear "Blonde Solid" or "Get Back Again" in concert!!!! They are neat little songs but people need to get over it! Big Grin

I hate Rolling Stone, they wouldnt know good rock n roll if it crawled up their ass, went up there stomach and came out their eyeballs! Here's why I hate them http://www.simonsays.com/content/conten ... pid=500890 Ive searched this entire book front to back and not one mention of The Tragically Hip, I mean give me break!! This book boasts that it has the 10,000 best rock, pop and hippty-hopshit, albums reviewed and rated from the last decade, they're f****d in the head for leaving the Hip out. And for that 500 greatest songs list, Id keep ranting and raving about it, but Im paralyzed with rage

Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”
