No kidding. These guys remind me of the Canucks fans I ran into on the Calgary Flames forum after we beat them in 7 games. Nothin' but sour grapes. This is a HUGE victory and the biggest thing to happen to the people of Boston in a long time. I for one hope they continue celebrating well into the new year!

If the team I cheered for won, I wouldn't be coming on the board gloating for eternity. It's nothing for fans to brag about because the fans had nothing to do with the win. The players play the game.
Hey, I gave props to the Flames. They were better than the Canucks. Iginla was my favourite player even though I am/was a Canucks fan. I say am/was because with the current situation I'm not sure if I'm a fan of any player or team anymore.
I just have to come back to this though. Why should I be happy for the people of Boston? Do they care about me? I don't see why I have to be happy for complete strangers. If my team won I wouldn't be happy for the people of the city. I would be happy that the team I cheered for won but that's it.

Sorry, but 90 years of impotence doesn't make this championship any more monumental than any other in my eyes. To me, last year's Marlins upset of the Yanks was much more significant than this one, but....whatever...have your fun....

The Marlins have won 2 World Series for goodness sakes! Florida has won more world series the last ten years than the Red Sox. The MARLINS! The same Marlins who ruined my Cleveland Indians team's chances!
Congrats to the winner, Boston, but it shouldn't be considered a better accomplishment just because of Boston's perpetual choking over the years. A win is a win. This win is no more of an accomplishment than the Angels' win or the Marlins' wins.

True, but the difference is the amount of emotional baggage that has been lifted for Sox fans. The Marlins' didn't exist long enough for any bad memories to build up, and do the Angels really have any fans? I mean its not like books were written about the plight of the Marlins or the Angels pre-World Series victories.
The best parallel I can draw is being a Leaf fan (which I am). A Stanley Cup win by the Leafs (insert joke here) would mean sooooooo much more to a typical Leaf fan than what this past season's Cup win meant to Lightning fans - assuming there are any.

Yes, I certainly can't argue the fact about the emotional baggage. I just don't think I should be forced to somehow feel good for these fans. I don't even know any of them. It's only sports and if Boston's streak lasted 160 years it still wouldn't be that big of a deal to me. I guess I just don't take sports as seriously as I used to.
BTW, that is a funny post. I think the Leafs have to face reality and realize that people like Bryan Marchment (a tough guy and decent dman but not a top flite dman as some in the organization think)and Nik Antropov aren't going to get it done. I'm also not sure if there are any Lightning fans. Well, there are quite a few on PEI (Richards and all)but , well, ya know.

Agreed. The history, tradition and lore surrounding the Red Sox goes much deeper than teams like the Marlins or the Angels. One of my good friends is originally from Boston and he's always telling me how much the people in that city live and die by the Sox, much more so than the Patriots or even the Bruins. Boston is and always was a baseball town. As a Calgary Flames fan I know how much it hurts to be out of the playoffs for a measly 8 years. Take that and multiply it by 12 and you'll get a good indication of the joy Bostonians must be feeling today.
And as for the comment about the fans having nothing to do with it, I totally disagree. I think the fans play a HUGE role, not only by buying the tickets and the merchandise, but most importantly by filling the stadium/arena to capacity and cheering our lungs out during each game. I was a first-hand witness to this last spring when the Flames made their amazing run. I firmly believe that Iginla and company wouldn't have gotten that far without the insanely devoted support of the fans and the city. The players do their part and we do ours. It's all part of the package.

I don't think anyone is forcing you to feel good for the fans. Either you do or you don't, but no one is making you. Personally, I feel good for them because I detest the Evil Empire so anything that irks Steinbrenner is good news in my books! :thumb:

HAHA, Al "no sources" Strachan. The guy never had sources. He should be writing for the Enquirer because all of his stuff is rumours. Keenan would trade Stajan for Messier. Keenan loves the old dogs.

I am not saying we should act like this is the second coming. But as a sports fan, I feel happy for them. I don't think anyone's "gloating", it's just the joy of toppling the Yanks and winning the Series in the same year. I know how much that would mean to me, if a similar thing happened to one of my teams, so I feel happy vicariously through them.

The Leafs got it right with Leetch? In my opinion Leetch was terrible in the playoffs because the guy can't play defense. He is gifted offensively but is a huge liability on defense. Being a Canucks fan and all I know a few things about liability on the defensive end of things with Malik, Sopel, and even Jovo leaving a lot to be desired in their own end. Yes I said it, Jovo is a tad overrated. His flashiness is what catches the fans attention.
