Maybe I'm overworked, I've underslept, and I'm drunk, but I thought I had a song on my computer entitled "The Tragically Hip - The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald"... I don't know if its authentic or not, but there is no vocals, its purely instrumental, and it sounds more modern than the original.... does anybody else have this?

In terms of songs I'd like to hear the Hip do I wouldn't mind:

Come Together - The Beatles (Gord would have to belt out a mindblowing rant on this one)
Cocaine - Eric Clapton (I don't know, I love the song, and it would be interesting to hear Gord's rendition of the song)
Last Dance With Mary Jane - Tom Petty (If only for comic relief... Gord singing about his good friend, it would me moving, if not powerful)

That version of "The Wreck..." sounds great, and does have some very Hip tendencies about it... but nobody can seem to verify if it's really them.

I found it on Kazaa years ago and just always assumed it was done during the "Antares" or "30 Hour Famine" (If there was one) sessions... or perhaps for an earlier GL tribute disc that never happened.

I agree with Baby Ran as being a good cover. Staying with 54-40 how bout Blame Your Parents or Sheila. ALways had tons of respect for 54-40. Don't get the publicity they deserve anymore. Goodbye to FLatland is a wicked album.

Lots of people mentioning Pearl Jam... I couldn't see The Hip doing Spin The Black Circle. I think State Of Love And Trust would be great. My dream is to see the Hip play a PJ vice versa.

If we're talking 54-40, I'd say Music Man would provide ample opportunity in the middle for jamming and ranting. And I'm sure Rob or Paul could think of something interesting to do in place of the organ.

Also, they could do a really dark version of We Are, We Pretend.

Oh, I think Gord could rip into "Spin the Black Circle". It's definitely an agressive, fast song and I'd like to see the boys blaze through it! "Better Man" would be great.

I think "This is My Haircut" would be awesome too (54-40). Lots of room for some ranting from Gordie. "Luv You All" would be good too. 54-40 have had a great career. I don't know if they are underappreciated though. I think they have the respect of most musicians and critics.

Well, part of it's probably a matter of which country you live in. I'm here in the States, where people think frickin' Hootie wrote I Go Blind, and where I saw 54-40 play at TT the Bear's in Cambridge a couple years ago to a crowd of about 35. It was embarrassing, and I felt awful for the band.
