Gord Downie may want to consider removing his Bill Barilko card from underneath his Fifty-Mission Cap, as trading card prices for the Barilko card have recently skyrocketed.
As of January 2005, Beckett Hockey Monthly did not even list the Pro Set #340, depicting Bill Barilko’s infamous overtime goal, giving the card a value of roughly five cents. Naturally, this gave Mr. Downie good reason to haphazardly stash the card underneath a tattered cap. The September 2005, Beckett trading card magazine increased the value 100 fold, making the card worth $5.00 in good condition and $12.00 in mint condition. Speculation seems that The Tragically Hip song “Fifty-Mission Cap” influenced the value of the Barilko card, as it was the only card in the entire set to actually be listed. It is rather odd that such a common card could suddenly skyrocket in value. It must be so, that one of the ultimate card value placers at Beckett, heard “Fifty-Mission Cap”, found out which card Gord was talking about, then became enthralled with the story, and proceeded to hike up the price of the card.

Bill Barilko disappeared that summer,
he was on a fishing trip.
The last goal he ever scored
won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another until 1962,
the year he was discovered.
I stole this from a hockey card, (shown below)
I keeped tucked up under
my fifty mission cap.

I'd love to get my card signed by Gord, along with a written title: '50 Mission Cap' above the picture!

You could always try sending it to The Hip, you never know. Worst case scenerio you're out a hockey card which is a dime a dozen.

Maybe Mav could provide us with their mailing address? Then Gord could individually number the cards to increase the rareness!

I had a look this evening Gus, but no luck. I know i have a few copies of that card somewhere, but it's not in the boxes with my old pro-set cards, so i must have taken it out sometime. I have a ton of old cards so i wouldn't really know where to begin looking.

I had a card tucked up under my cap for the 1992-93 season. Wendel Clark. Remember Borschevsky in game 7 o/t against the Wings? Three seven game series in a row, wings, Blues and lost to the Kings when Gretzky didn't get called for the high stick on Gilmour.

Go Leafs Go!! (next year).......
