Was this the secret show in support of camp trillium ? If so, I skipped school that day and "borrowed" my dads car to go get wristbands. Came home in the afternoon and was grounded for taking the car... luckily my father was cool that i had tickets for a show for that night and let me go.

That show was amazing and that venue is missed.

The Concert Hall - later the Masonic Temple - was at the corner of Yonge and Davenport. The building still stands but it's been vacant since Bell sold it a couple of years ago.

I remember this being the second of three consecutive secret shows in three straight years. There was a gig at the Horseshoe for the release of Henhouse, this, as part of North By Northeast, and then the Phantom Power release gigs (five small shows in total, the London show was the one taped for the Much Music special). The Phantom Power shows were certainly Camp Trillium benefits, but I actually think every "secret" gig the band did during that time was.

Moral of the story: this is likely the show. Perhaps someone wasn't so bitter about being underage at the time and not being able to go can provide a better answer.

Am I the only one who found this video extremely sad and almost patronizing?

Not in the slightest. It's remarkably tough to watch, in my opinion. A weird mix of heart warming and gut wrenching.

I felt similar, but not patronizing in the least, just a bit sad.

Maybe I am misreading it, but it sure looked like the intention was for Gord to do the entire second verse, but just couldn't get through it. I think he really took that hard, looks really disappointed with himself and is why he stepped to the far back. You see everyone going up to him telling him it's ok, especially Cuddy giving him a hug and talking to him about it.

Again, that's just the way it looked to me, I could easily be way off base though.

I interpret it the same way. It's diificult to hear Gord sing anything other than "And I wonder why I bother" and if you watch it from some of the other angles it appears he's struggling to sing any of the lines, even with the lyrics on a sheet of paper in front of him. I would have loved nothing more than for him to have stepped up to the mic and belted out that second verse. The fact that he couldn't deliver is sad. However, it was nice to see his musical brothers had his back up there.

I found it sad but not patronizing. It looked like Gord was intending to sing a verse since he had something written down...but he didn't do it for whatever reason (memory/cognitive problems, overcome with emotion, didn't feel comfortable doing it at another band's show, who knows)...so he did look a little lost. But they all seemed to be like "hey man, it's OK. We'll be 'lost together.'") :-)
